The unrelated jumping spider species ''Synemosyna formica'' has been mistaken for a member of this genus twice, once by Eugène Simon in 1897 (''Myrmecium lunatum'') and once by Cândido Firmino de Mello-Leitão in 1932 (''Myrmecium rubrum''). Species it contains thirty-nine species in South America and the Caribbean: *''Myrmecium amphora'' Candiani & Bonaldo, 2017 – Venezuela *''Myrmecium bifasciatum'' Władysław Taczanowski, Taczanowski, 1874 – Bolivia, Trinidad, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Brazil *''Myrmecium bolivari'' Candiani & Bonaldo, 2017 – Venezuela, Colombia *''Myrmecium bonaerense'' Holmberg, 1881 – Argentina *''Myrmecium camponotoides'' Cândido Firmino de Mello-Leitão, Mello-Leitão, 1932 – Brazil *''Myrmecium carajas'' Candiani & Bonaldo, 2017 – Brazil *''Myrmecium carvalhoi'' Candiani & Bonaldo, 2017 – Bra ...

Calcareous Sponge
The calcareous sponges or calcereans are sponges that make up the class Calcarea, characterized by spicules made of calcium carbonate in the form of high-magnesium calcite or aragonite. While the spicules in most species are triradiate (with three points in a single plane), some species may possess two- or four-pointed spicules.''Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology'' Part E, Revised. Porifera, Volume 3: Classes Demospongea, Hexactinellida, Heteractinida & Calcarea, xxxi + 872 p., 506 fig., 1 table, 2004, availablhere .''Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology'' Part E, Revised. Porifera, Volumes 4 & 5: Hypercalcified Porifera, Paleozoic Stromatoporoidea & Archaeocyatha, liii + 1223 p., 665 figs., 2015, availablhere . Unlike the far more common siliceous sponges, calcareans lack microscleres, tiny spicules which reinforce the flesh. In addition, their spicules develop from the outside-in, mineralizing within a hollow organic sheath. Biology All sponges in this class are strictly m ...

Myrmēkion
Myrmēkion or Myrmecium (, ) was an ancient Greek colony in the Crimea. The settlement was founded in the eastern part of the modern city Kerch, 4 km NE of ancient Panticapaeum on the bank of the Kerch bay near the cape Karantinny. The settlement was founded by Milesians in the first half of the 6th c. BC. According to Strabo it was 20 stadia from Panticapeum, and 40 stadia from Parthenium and opposite to it was the town of Achilleum. Near the town was a promontory of the same name. It was in the place of modern Yeni-Kale and many ancient remains have been found. In the 5th century BC, the town specialized in winemaking and minted its own coinage. It was surrounded by towered walls, measuring some 2.5 metres thick. Myrmekion fell into the hands of the Bosporan kings in the 4th century BC and gradually dwindled into insignificance in the shadow of their capital, Panticapaeum. Regular excavations began in 1934 undertaken by an expedition led by V.F. Gaidukevich. The site wa ...
