Mynors Baronets
The Mynors Baronetcy, of Treago in the County of Hereford, is a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 24 January 1964 for Humphrey Mynors, Deputy Governor of the Bank of England from 1954 to 1964. The title is held by his son, Sir Richard, who succeeded in 1989, and who is a musician and conductor. As of 2017, he conducted Herefordshire Youth Orchestra. The twin brother of Humphrey Mynors, Roger Aubrey Baskerville Mynors (1903–1989) was separately knighted in 1963. Treago Castle
Treago Castle is a fortified manor house in the parish of St Weonards, Herefordshire, England (). Built c. 1500, it was recorded as a Grade I listed building on 30 April 1986—based on its extant medieval architecture, quadrangle courtyard layout and defensive wall corner towers. Digging on the site revealed solid bedrock, conflicting rumours of a previously filled moat. Main building The building was probably built by Sir Richard Mynors (c. 1440–1528 ), a tax collector in Wales. The name originates from "Tre" (homestead or farm) and "Ago" (' being the Welsh form of the name " James"), suggesting there was a previous dwelling on the land. The fortified house was built to keep the Welsh out, but was never under attack. Originally the building was of a secure design, featuring a central courtyard and no externally facing windows. Baronets are a rank in the British aristocracy. The current Baronetage of the United Kingdom has replaced the earlier but existing Baronetages of England, Nova Scotia, Ireland, and Great Britain. Baronetage of England (1611–1705) King James I created the hereditary Order of Baronets in England on 22 May 1611, for the settlement of Ireland. He offered the dignity to 200 gentlemen of good birth, with a clear estate of £1,000 a year, on condition that each one should pay a sum equivalent to three years' pay to 30 soldiers at 8d per day per man (total – £1,095) into the King's Exchequer. The Baronetage of England comprises all baronetcies created in the Kingdom of England before the Act of Union in 1707. Sir Humphrey Mynors, 1st Baronet
Sir Humphrey Charles Baskerville Mynors, 1st Baronet (28 July 1903 – 25 May 1989), was Deputy Governor of the Bank of England from 1954 to 1964. He was previously a Director of the Bank of England from March 1949 to 1954 and Deputy Secretary starting in 1938. He subsequently served as the Chairman of the Finance Corporation for Industry and the inaugural Chairman of the Panel on Takeovers and Mergers. Mynors was educated at Marlborough College, and received a BA from Corpus Christi College, Cambridge in 1926 (subsequently promoted to Master of Arts in 1929). He was also an assistant lecturer at Cambridge. In October 1939, he married Lydia Minns, daughter of his fellow academic, Sir Ellis Minns, Disney Professor of Archaeology: the couple had six children.
