Myloplus Aylan
''Myloplus'' is a genus of freshwater fish in the family (biology), family Serrasalmidae found in tropical and subtropical South America, where they inhabit rivers and streams (both slow and fast-flowing). They are primarily herbivores, but also take some animal matter. Depending on the exact species, they reach up to in standard length. Adult males have a double-lobed anal fin and filamentous extensions on the dorsal fin, and both sexes (but especially males) can be brightly colored when breeding. Theodore Nicholas Gill
Theodore Nicholas Gill (March 21, 1837 – September 25, 1914) was an American ichthyologist, mammalogist, malacologist, and librarian. Career Born and educated in New York City under private tutors, Gill early showed interest in natural history. He was associated with J. Carson Brevoort in the arrangement of the latter's entomological and ichthyological collections before going to Washington, DC, in 1863 to work at the Smithsonian Institution. He catalogued mammals, fishes, and mollusks most particularly, although he maintained proficiency in other orders of animals. He was librarian at the Smithsonian and also senior assistant to the Library of Congress. He was elected as a member of the American Philosophical Society in 1867. Gill was professor of zoology at George Washington University. He was also a member of the Megatherium Club at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC. ''Myloplus levis'', the Moon pacu, is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish belonging to the family Serrasalmidae, which includes the pacus and piranhas. This fish is found in southern South America. Taxonomy ''Myloplus levis'' was first formally described as ''Myleus levis'' in 1907 by the American ichthyologists Carl H. Eigenmann and Waldo Lee McAtee with its type locality given as Bahía Negra in Paraguay. The genus ''Myloplus'' is classified in the subfamily Myleinae, of the family Serrasalmidae, which is classified in the suborder Characoidei of the order Characiformes. ''Myloplus nigrolineatus'' is a species of freshwater fish in the serrasalmid family (family Serrasalmidae) of order Characiformes. It is native to the Amazon River basin in South America. Description Like other members of the serrasalmid family, ''Myloplus nigrolineatus'' is characterized by a deep, elliptical, and laterally compressed body, giving it a shape reminiscent of an elongated disc. The body ranges from in length and in depth. It has a slightly upturned, terminal mouth with two rows of molar-like teeth. Behind this main row of teeth is a pair of conical cutting teeth with a sharp surface on the front edge. The cycloid scales are tiny and numerous, and the scales along the lateral line are black colored due to high concentrations of black chromatophores. Achille Valenciennes (9 August 1794 – 13 April 1865) was a French zoology, zoologist. Valenciennes was born in Paris, and studied under Georges Cuvier. His study of parasitic worms in humans made an important contribution to the study of parasitology. He also carried out diverse systematic classifications, linking fossil and current species.
