Muzykivka
Muzykivka () is a large village located in Kherson Raion north of the city of Kherson, Kherson Oblast. It hosts the administration of Muzykivka rural hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Geography The village is situated 13 km from the centre of Kherson city. It has an area of 5.6 km2 and a population of approximately 2,672 people. History Muzykivka is first mentioned in written sources in 1815 as "Muzykyni khutory" (, literally "Muzyky's khutir"). According to local tradition, "Muzyky" was the surname of a Cossack who founded the settlement. In the times of the Soviet Union, Muzykivka was assigned to Bilozerka Raion of Kherson Oblast. During World War II, Muzykivka was occupied by Nazi Germany between 18 August 1941 and 14 March 1944. Kherson Raion (; ) is a raion (district) of Kherson Oblast, Ukraine. History Kherson Raion was created on 18 July 2020 as part of the reform of administrative divisions of Ukraine. The center of the raion is the city of Kherson. The city of Oleshky to the south of Kherson is the second largest city, and the largest in the former Oleshky Raion. Two abolished raions, Bilozerka and Oleshky Raions, as well as Kherson Municipality, were merged into Kherson Raion. Bilozerka Raion () was one of the 18 former administrative raions ( ''districts'') of Kherson Oblast in southern Ukraine. Its administrative center was located in the urban-type settlement of Bilozerka. The raion was disestablished on 18 July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Kherson Oblast to five. The area of the former Bilozerka Raion was merged into Kherson Raion. 2022 Kherson Counteroffensive
A military counteroffensive was launched by Ukraine on 29 August 2022 to expel Russian forces occupying the southern regions of Kherson and Mykolaiv oblasts.
