Mutiny (2002 Film)
''Mutiny'' is the fifth episode of the British film series ''Hornblower (TV series), Hornblower''. It was released on April 8, 2001. It is based on the 1952 book ''Lieutenant Hornblower'' by C.S. Forester. ''Mutiny'' was written by Trevor Bowen, T. R. Bowen and directed by Andrew Grieve. Plot In 1802 in Kingston, Jamaica, Lieutenant Horatio Hornblower is imprisoned on a charge of mutiny. During a visit to his cell, Hornblower explains the circumstances to his former captain, Commodore Edward Pellew, 1st Viscount Exmouth, Sir Edward Pellew. In a six months flashback, Hornblower is third lieutenant aboard HMS ''Renown'', under the command of the famous Captain James Sawyer, a hero from the Battle of the Nile and one of Nelson's band of brothers, Admiral Nelson's band of brothers. Andrew Grieve
Andrew Grieve (born 28 November 1939) is a British television and film director. Grieve's credits include ''Wire in the Blood''. ''On the Black Hill (film), On the Black Hill'', the screenplay of which he also wrote, won the Golden Shell at the San Sebastian Film Festival in 1988. He has also directed episodes of ''Agatha Christie's Poirot'' and ''Hornblower (TV series), Hornblower''. His work on ''Hornblower'' won him the Silver FIPA at the Biarritz International Festival of Audiovisual Programming in 1999. The Battle of the Nile (also known as the Battle of Aboukir Bay; ) was fought between the Royal Navy and the French Navy at Abu Qir Bay, Aboukir Bay in Ottoman Egypt, Egypt between 1–3 August 1798. David Warner (actor)
David Hattersley Warner (29 July 1941 – 24 July 2022) was an English actor. Warner's lanky, often haggard appearance lent itself to a variety of villainous characters, as well as more sympathetic roles, in a career spanning six decades across stage and screen. His accolades include a Primetime Emmy Award as well as nominations for a BAFTA Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Ship grounding or ship stranding is the impact of a ship on seabed or waterway side. It may be intentional, as in beaching (nautical), beaching to land crew or cargo, and careening, for maintenance or repair, or unintentional, as in a marine accident. Chase Gun
A chase gun (or chaser), usually distinguished as bow chaser and stern chaser, was a cannon mounted in the bow (aiming forward) or stern (aiming backward) of a sailing ship. They were used to attempt to slow down an enemy ship either chasing (pursuing) or being chased, when the ship's broadside could not be brought to bear. Typically, the chasers were used to attempt to damage the rigging and thereby cause the target to lose performance. The name frigate in the 17th to early 18th centuries was given to any full-rigged ship built for speed and maneuverability, intended to be used in scouting, escort and patrol roles. Privateer
A privateer is a private person or vessel which engages in commerce raiding under a commission of war. Since robbery under arms was a common aspect of seaborne trade, until the early 19th century all merchant ships carried arms. A sovereign or delegated authority issued commissions, also referred to as letters of marque, during wartime. The commission empowered the holder to carry on all forms of hostility permissible at sea by the usages of war.
