Music In The Mountains
Music in the Mountains (MiTM) is an annual summer classical music festival located in Durango, with additional performances in other regional towns. Performances are held from early July through early August and feature performances by both professional and student artists. The festival was founded by conductor Mischa Semanitzky in 1987 through the support of Fort Lewis College, the ''Durango Herald'', Durango Mountain Resort, Morley Ballantine, and the Bank of Colorado. In 2008 Gregory Hustis, principal horn player for the Dallas Symphony, succeeded Semanitzky as Artistic Director. In the same season, Guillermo Figueroa, conductor of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, became the festival's resident conductor and music director. Drakensberg Boys' Choir School
Drakensberg Boys Choir School is a choir school located near Winterton, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, at the foot of the Central Drakensberg mountain range. Performing in a variety of genres such as jazz, pop and African music, the choir is based in South Africa but also tours internationally. Organisation The school was established in 1967 by John Tungay with assistance from his family. Typically, enrollment is about 120 boys, all aged 9 to 15. The school admitted its first black student in 1988, six years before the end of Apartheid. It has an extensive campus, including a 600-seat auditorium constructed in 1995, and holds weekly concerts for the local population. The Choir has toured internationally. Purgatory Resort is a ski resort located in the San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado, 25 miles (42 km) north of the town of Durango. The New Mexico Symphony Orchestra (NMSO) was a symphony orchestra in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It operated from 1932 until 2011, when it declared bankruptcy. History The orchestra, originally called the Albuquerque Civic Symphony, was organized by local members of the Rotary Club and first performed on November 30, 1932, at Carlisle Gymnasium. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO) is an American orchestra based in Dallas, Texas. Its principal performing venue is the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in the Arts District of downtown Dallas. History The orchestra traces its origins to a concert given by a group of forty musicians in 1900 with conductor Hans Kreissig. It continued to perform and grow in numbers and stature, so that in 1945 it was in a position to appoint Antal Doráti as music director. Under Doráti, the orchestra became fully professional.
