Museum Of Contemporary Art (Bangkok)
The Museum of Contemporary Art is an art museum in Bangkok, Thailand. It is privately owned by business executive Boonchai Bencharongkul, and was opened in 2012. The museum, one of the largest contemporary art museums in Asia, features an extensive collection of works by many famous Thai artists, including Thawan Duchanee, Hem Vejakorn, Chalermchai Kositpipat and Prateep Kochabua. MOCA houses a sizable collection of priceless artwork made by renowned Thai painters and sculptors. The main goal of the museum was to constantly share, spread, and preserve true Thai art and culture with both Thais and others from across the world, especially the next generation. Boonchai Bencharongkul
Boonchai Bencharongkul (, born 25 June 1954) is a Thai millionaire business executive and art collector. He is the founder and chairman of DTAC, Thailand's third-largest mobile phone operator. The eldest of four children, Boonchai was brought into the family business by his father Suchin, who had built the business by partnering with Motorola. Boonchai was 27 when his father died in 1981, leaving him the business as well as a lot of debt amid numerous lawsuits. He eventually persevered, closing down and offloading some branches of the business, and shifted its focus to the growing telecommunications industry. The business boomed, but was badly affected by the 1997 Asian financial crisis. Boonchai then turned to partnership with Norway-based Telenor. Khun Chang Khun Phaen
''Khun Chang Khun Phaen'' (, ) is a long Thai epic poem which originated from a legend of Thai folklore and is one of the most notable works in Thai literature. The work's entire length is over 20,000 couplets. Khun Chang and Khun Phaen are the leading male characters, where " Khun" was a junior feudal title given for male commoners. The story recounts the adventurous and amorous struggles of the three main protagonists. Much of their relationship can be described as a love triangle. Khun Phaen (dashing but poor) and Khun Chang (rich but ugly) compete for the lovely Wanthong from childhood for over fifty years. Lawrence Alma-Tadema
Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema ( ; born Lourens Alma Tadema, ; 8 January 1836 – 25 June 1912) was a Dutch people, Dutch painter who later settled in the United Kingdom, becoming the last officially recognised Denization, denizen in 1873. Born in Dronryp, the Netherlands, and trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Antwerp), Royal Academy of Antwerp, Belgium, he settled in London, England in 1870 and spent the rest of his life there. John William Godward
John William Godward (9 August 1861 – 13 December 1922) was an English painter from the end of the Neo-Classicist era. He was a protégé of Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema, but his style of painting fell out of favour with the rise of modern art. Early life Godward was born in 1861 and lived in Wilton Grove, Wimbledon. He was born to Sarah Eboral and John Godward (an investment clerk at the Law Life Assurance Society, London). He was the eldest of five children. He was named after his father John and grandfather William. He was christened at St Mary's Church, Battersea on 17 October 1861. The overbearing attitude of his parents made him reclusive and shy later in adulthood. Career He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1887. When he moved to Italy with one of his models in 1912, his family broke off all contact with him and even cut his image from family pictures. Chulalongkorn (20 September 1853 – 23 October 1910), posthumously honoured as King Chulalongkorn the Great, was the fifth king of Siam from the Chakri dynasty, titled Rama V. Chulalongkorn's reign from 1868 until his death in 1910 was characterised by the modernisation of Siam, governmental and social reforms, and territorial concessions to the British and French empires. As Siam was surrounded by European colonies, Chulalongkorn, through his policies and acts, ensured the independence of Siam. Chulalongkorn was born as the son of Mongkut, the fourth king of Siam. Angkarn Kalayanapong
Angkarn Kalayanapong (; ; 13 February 1926 – 25 August 2012) was a Thai poet and artist. He was named a National Artist of Thailand in 1989, and won the S.E.A. Write Award in 1986. Angkarn was born in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province in Southern Thailand. His father was a sub-district headman ''(kamnan)''. As a high school student, he started writing poems. He was admitted to study painting at the art-specialised Silpakorn University where he was taught, amongst others, by Silpa Bhirasri. In the 1950s, he became a professional writer. He deviated from the traditional schemes and rules of Thai poetry, which initially drew him criticism. Angkarn won the S.E.A.
