Murtaugh is a city in Twin Falls County, Idaho, United States. The population was 115 at the 2010 census, down from 139 in 2000. It is part of the Twin Falls, Idaho Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Murtaugh has existed since at least the early 1950s, and is named after Mark Murtaugh, who oversaw a local irrigation project. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. The community is located at a bend in U.S. Route 30. Murtaugh Lake is south of town on the opposite side of US-30. Demographics 2010 census As of the census of 2010, there were 115 people, 43 households, and 30 families residing in the town. The Wisconsin Range () is a major mountain range of the Horlick Mountains in Antarctica, comprising the Wisconsin Plateau and numerous glaciers, ridges and peaks bounded by the Reedy Glacier, Shimizu Ice Stream, Horlick Ice Stream and the interior ice plateau. Discovery and naming The Wisconsin Range was mapped by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and United States Navy air photos, 1959–64. It was named by the United States Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Madison, Wisconsin, which has sent numerous researchers to Antarctica. The first air photographs of the Wisconsin Range were taken by United States Navy Taskforce 68 during Operation Highjump in 1946–47. Daniel Edward Murtaugh (October 8, 1917 – December 2, 1976) was an American second baseman, manager, front-office executive, and coach in Major League Baseball (MLB). Murtaugh is best known for his 29-year association with the Pittsburgh Pirates, with whom he won two World Series as field manager (in and ). He also played 416 of his 767 career MLB games with the Pirates as their second baseman. Timothy J. Murtaugh (born May 6, 1943 at Chester, Pennsylvania) is an American former professional baseball catcher and manager. The son of former Pittsburgh Pirates infielder and manager Danny Murtaugh, Tim fashioned a 13-year career in the Pirates' farm system (1965–1977), six of them as an active player, and seven as a manager or playing manager. The 5 foot, 11 inch (1.8 m), 195 pound (89 kg) Murtaugh signed with the Pirates after graduating from the College of the Holy Cross. A switch hitter, he threw right-handed.
