Municipality Of Bled
The Municipality of Bled (; ) is a municipality in northwestern Slovenia in the Upper Carniola region. The seat of the municipality is the town of Bled, located on the shores of Lake Bled. The area is a popular Resort town, tourist destination. The Municipality of Bled was established in October 1994. It was greatly reduced in size with the establishment of the Municipality of Gorje in June 2006, having retained only 38% of its previous territory. Municipality Of Jesenice
The Municipality of Jesenice (; ) is a municipality in northwest Slovenia. The seat of the municipality is the town of Jesenice. It has 21,895 inhabitants. Geography The municipality lies in the Carniola, Upper Carniola region, in the Upper Sava Valley. It is bordered by the Karawanks and Austria (Carinthia) to the north, and by Mount Mežakla to the south. Denis Žvegelj
Denis Žvegelj (born 24 June 1972) is an ex-Slovenian rower and Olympic medallist. He was born in Jesenice, SR Slovenia. Rowing career Žvegelj started rowing at the age of 12 at local rowing club in his hometown Bled. Serious rowing racing started in the coxless pair with Iztok Čop, when they won two junior world championships (1989, 1990). They finished 2nd in the World Championships in 1991, and won Bronze at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 with Čop (the first Olympic medal for independent Slovenia). In 1993 Žvegelj and Iztok took bronze despite Žvegelj's severe shoulder injury after a bicycle accident. Žvegelj studied at Brown University where he rowed and studied Mechanical Engineering. He was member of Brown's varsity eight, which won National Collegiate Rowing Championship in years 1994 and 1995. Julius Johannes Ludovicus Ritter von Payer (2 September 1841 – 29 August 1915), ennobled Ritter von Payer in 1876, was an officer of the Austro-Hungarian Army, mountaineer, Polar exploration, arctic explorer, Cartography, cartographer, painter, and professor at the Theresian Military Academy. Špela Pretnar (born 5 March 1973) is a Slovenian former alpine skier. In her career, Pretnar won six races in Alpine Skiing World Cup races, with 13 podiums altogether. Sara Isaković
Sara Isaković (born 9 June 1988) is a retired Slovenian swimmer. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, aged 20, she placed 2nd in the 200 m freestyle with the time of 1:54.97, becoming the second woman ever (behind Federica Pellegrini) to break the 1 min 55 sec mark. It is still, to this day, the only swimming Olympic medal won for Slovenia. Isaković competed for Slovenia at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, and the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Peter Florjančič (5 March 1919 – 14 November 2020) was a Slovene inventor and Olympic athlete. Iztok Čop
Iztok Čop (born 17 June 1972) is a Slovenian rower and Olympic gold medalist. Biography Čop was born in Kranj, SR Slovenia, and started rowing at the age of 13 in Bled, where Slovenia's best rowing club is located. Originally rowing in the coxless pairs, Čop finished second in the World Championships in 1991, and won Bronze at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 with Denis Žvegelj (the first Olympic medal for independent Slovenia). He then switched to the single scull, winning gold at the 1995 World Championship, but came fourth at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. He then changed to the men's double sculls with Luka Špik, and won the 1999 World Championships, and gold at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, which was the first Olympic gold medal for Slovenia since its independence. Zasip
Zasip (; ) is a village in the Municipality of Bled in the Upper Carniola region of northwestern Slovenia. Name Zasip was attested in written sources in 1075–90 as ''Zazib''. The name is derived from the prepositional phrase ''*za sipi'' 'behind the upper part of a scree slope', thus referring to the local geographical feature. In the local dialect, the settlement is known as ''Zâsp''. Geography The village is located about north of the Bled town centre and Lake Bled, below the southern slopes of Hom Hill.
