Municipal Conservatory Of Barcelona
The Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona (, ) is a teaching institution, which is devoted to music education. The present ownership belongs to the Barcelona City Hall. History The beginnings took place in 1886; it was founded by the Municipal Band of Barcelona as a school of music, so that the new musicians of the band could be trained there. Other cities that had a band had made the same thing, since they had the same necessity. The first director was :ca:Josep Rodoreda, until in 1896 Antoni Nicolau replaced him. In 1911, the position of assistant director was created. The first assistant director was Enric Morera until 1935. In 1930, when a new director was needed for the band, Lluís Millet was elected. He was more conservative and he was preferred by the Barcelona City Hall. His election for this position created some polemics. Adelaida Ferré Gomis
Adelaida Ferré i Gomis de Ruíz de Narváez (Barcelona, 24 February 1881 - Barcelona, 9 March 1955) was a Spanish historian, teacher, and folklorist associated with lace-making in Catalonia. Early life and education Adelaida Ferré Gomis was the daughter of the painter and decorator Pere Ferré. Her education began at the Escola Normal Superior de Mestres before attending the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona and the Escola d'Institutrius. There, she had as a teacher the folklorist :es:Rossend Serra i Pagès. Between the years 1902 and 1915, she received artistic training at the Escola de la Llotja. She combined her artistic studies with those at the :ca:Institut Català de les Arts del Llibre and the :es:Centro de Cultura de Mujeres Francesca Bonnemaison, where she was able to perfect her knowledge of lace-making and other crafts. Carme Vilà
Carme Vilà i Fassier (born 1937) is a Catalan pianist. From 1997 to 2001 she was the director of the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona. Biography Vilà was born in Roses, Girona, and is the fourth generation of pianists in her family. She started studying piano at the age of four with Emilia Palau. She entered the '' Conservatori Superior del Liceu'' in Barcelona at the age of 12, and graduated with the highest grades and with the Silver and gold medals at the age of 16. She later studied with Béla Síki in Switzerland, at the age of 17, and she was one of the finalists in the Geneva International Piano Competition in 1953 and 1955. In 1959 she entered the Musik Hochschule in Vienna at the Konzertfachklasse of the professor Richard Hauser and won the Haydn-Schubert International Competition in Vienna.
