Mun San Fook Tuck Chee Temple
Sar Kong Mun San Fook Tuck Chee () is a temple located around Kallang Basin in Singapore. It is one of the oldest Cantonese temples in Singapore, as well as the only one to host a fire dragon performance as part of its rituals. The temple performed societal functions before facing the threat of redevelopment in the 1960s, but eventually, managed to get the site to be preserved for heritage purposes. Kallang Basin
Kallang Basin (; ) is an enclosed bay in Kallang, Singapore. The Kallang River, Rochor River and Geylang River empty into the Kallang Basin. The Marina Channel connects the Kallang Basin with the Singapore Straits. Currently, the Kallang Basin is part of the Marina Reservoir, as are the rivers that flow into the Kallang Basin and their tributaries. The reservoir has a catchment size of nearly one-sixth of mainland Singapore's land area. The Kallang Basin is a popular location for water sports, in particular, kayaking and dragon boating. Today, the area surrounding the body of water is also frequently called "Kallang Basin". The term has been applied to the industrial estates along Kallang Bahru, the Kallang Basin Swimming Complex, amongst others. HDB Blocks
The Housing & Development Board (HDB; often referred to as the Housing Board; ; ; ), is a statutory board under the Ministry of National Development responsible for the public housing in Singapore. Established in 1960 as a result of efforts in the late 1950s to set up an authority to take over the Singapore Improvement Trust's (SIT) public housing responsibilities, the HDB focused on the construction of emergency housing and the resettlement of kampong residents into public housing in the first few years of its existence. This focus shifted from the late 1960s, with the HDB building flats with improved fittings and offering them for sale. Land Acquisition Act 1966
The Land Acquisition Act 1966 is a Singaporean law on government acquisition of land for public housing projects. Background Prior to the Land Acquisition Act 1966, the law for the government acquiring private land was the Land Acquisition Ordinance 1955, which empowered the government to compulsorily acquire private land for public projects. However, it did not prevent landowners from increasing the price of their land, which increased the land acquisition cost and therefore made low-cost public projects to be difficult. In the 1950-60's, the population of Singapore was increasing, which caused informal settlements and shophouses to be overcrowded. This made the government to establish the country's public housing agency, the HDB, and to build HDB residential estates to relocate its population. Tudigong
A Tudigong ( zh, s=土地公, l=Lord of the Land) is a kind of Chinese tutelary deity of a specific location. There are several Tudigongs corresponding to different geographical locations and sometimes multiple ones will be venerated together in certain regions. Hua Tuo
Hua Tuo ( 140–208), courtesy name Yuanhua, was a Chinese physician who lived during the late Eastern Han dynasty. Historical texts, such as ''Records of the Three Kingdoms'' and ''Book of the Later Han'' record Hua Tuo as having been the first person in China to use anaesthesia during surgery. He used a general anaesthetic combining wine with a herbal concoction called ''mafeisan'' (; literally "cannabis boil powder"). Besides being respected for his expertise in surgery and anaesthesia, Hua Tuo was famous for his abilities in acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal medicine and medical ''daoyin'' exercises. He developed the ''Wuqinxi'' (; literally "Exercise of the Five Animals") from studying the movements of the tiger, deer, bear, ape and crane.
