Muir Grove
Muir Grove is a giant sequoia grove in Sequoia National Park of the Tulare County, which covers about . The grove, located in the northwest corner of the park, is accessed by the Muir Grove Trail which begins from the Dorst Creek Campground. Because of its relatively remote location in the park, it is significantly less visited than the more popular groves of large sequoia trees in the park. The isolated atmosphere helps keep Muir Grove untouched and preserved. History and Origin Muir Grove was named after the Scottish-American naturalist and author John Muir. His advocacy for the preservation of wilderness in the United States made him well known among environmentalists and politicians. His writing about nature and conservation efforts helped sway many public and political opinions. His attempts lead to the creation of Sequoia and General Grant National Parks. Muir Seamount
Muir Seamount is a seamount ( underwater volcano), located at . It is located in the Bermuda rise, a seismically active region, and was the site of an earthquake on 24 March 1978. Fourteen core samples of up to 125,000 years of age were collected off of Muir Seamount, ranging in depth to more than . These samples were used to analyse the weight percentage of carbonate over time on the ocean floor, which in turn would provide clues to the oceanic environment over time. Overall concentrations were most stable at of depth. This was interpreted as indicating an increase in flow from the colder waters of the Antarctic, and the stagnation of the North American flows. A total of 8 core samples have been gathered, with ages ranging from Pliocene to Late Cretaceous. No radiometric dates are available for the seamount, but it may of Early Cretaceous time. Muir Highway
Muir Highway, also called Muirs Highway, is a Western Australian highway linking Manjimup and Mount Barker, which is on the Albany Highway. It is signed as State Route 102 and is long. It provides a shorter distance between the cities of Bunbury and Albany. It is a lowly populated highway passing mostly through karri and jarrah with occasional areas of farmland. One village, Rocky Gully lies on the highway, although it also passes through the localities of Dingup, Nyamup, Lake Muir, Strachan and Murtinup. It is primarily used as a freight route for plantation timber trucks and interstate long vehicles servicing the horticultural areas of the South West. The road is a two way, single carriageway bitumen surfaced highway. The Muir Army Airfield is a military airport at Fort Indiantown Gap, near Annville, Pennsylvania, United States.
