Mueang Rayong District
Mueang Rayong (, ) is the capital district ('' amphoe mueang'') of Rayong province, Thailand. The provincial administration is in Tambon Map Ta Phut. Geography Neighboring districts are (from the west clockwise) Ban Chang, Nikhom Phatthana, Ban Khai, Wang Chan, and Klaeng. To the south is the Gulf of Thailand. The popular holiday island of Ko Samet, which is part of the Khao Laem Ya – Mu Ko Samet National Park, is in Mueang Rayong District. Economy The town of Map Ta Phut is in the western part of Mueang Rayong District. It is the site of the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Thailand's largest petrochemical and heavy industry park. It contributes to Rayong Province's economic output, but has also become known for scandals involving hazardous waste, industrial accidents, and pollution. Klaeng District
Klaeng (, ) is a district (''amphoe'') on the coast of Rayong province, in eastern Thailand. History Klaeng's history dates back to the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Due to its location mid-way between Mueang Rayong district and Chanthaburi province and its abundance of natural resources such as fertile rice fields and many watercourses, it has been a magnet for immigration. Its name is believed to be a variant of the Chong word ''Ka-laeng'' (กะแล่ง), which means "walking catfish". Since the Ayutthaya period, Klaeng has been a place to gather people for war service. In the reign of King Rama V, ''Mueang'' Klaeng was a fourth class city under Monthon Chanthaburi. The former city offices were in Ban Laem Mueang, Tambon Paknam Prasae. Rayong
Rayong (, ) is a city (''thesaban nakhon'') on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand and the capital of Rayong province. It covers tambons Tha Pradu and Pak Nam and parts of ''tambons'' Choeng Noen and Noen Phra, all within Mueang Rayong district. As of 2016 the population was 64,256 (est.). The main industry is fishing, and it is also the main producer of Thailand's fish sauce. It is also the center of the chemical and auto industries. In 2012 Ford Motor Company opened an assembly plant in Rayong to expand Ford's presence in the ASEAN area, employing some 2,200 people. Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate
The Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate is a large industrial park in the town of Map Ta Phut in Rayong Province, Thailand. Part of Thailand's Eastern Seaboard of Thailand, eastern seaboard economic region, it is the country's largest industrial estate and the world's eighth-largest petrochemical industrial hub. It was opened in 1990 and is managed by the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, a state enterprise under the Ministry of Industry (Thailand), Ministry of Industry. Map Ta Phut houses five industrial estates, one deep-sea port, and 151 factories, including petrochemical plants, oil refineries, coal-fired power stations, and iron and steel facilities.
