''Muchachos bañándose en la laguna de Maracaibo'' (English: ''Kids bathing at the lagoon of Maracaibo'') is the second Venezuelan film produced, after ''Un célebre especialista sacando muelas en el gran Hotel Europa''. It was screened at the Baralt Theatre in Maracaibo, Venezuela, on 28 January 1897. The film shows a group of young people, " muchachos", enjoying Lake Maracaibo. Not much is known about the film's production, and scholars question the identity of its director. Though more is known of the contents of this film than its pair ''Un célebre especialista...'', it has not seen as much modern discussion as the latter. Manuel Trujillo Durán
Manuel Trujillo Durán (8 January 1871 – 14 March 1933) was a Venezuelan photographer who pioneered film in Venezuela. Trujillo was most successful as a photographer, though he dabbled in other industries and is best remembered for his connections to the fledgling film industry in Venezuela. He became one of the first people from Latin America to learn how to show films; he was thought for many years to be the director of Venezuela's first films, and traveled through Venezuela and Colombia with projectors to introduce cinema to this part of the South American continent. Domenico Gaetano Maria Donizetti (29 November 1797 – 8 April 1848) was an Italian Romantic music, Romantic composer, best known for his almost 70 operas. Along with Gioachino Rossini and Vincenzo Bellini, he was a leading composer of the ''bel canto'' opera style during the first half of the nineteenth century and a probable influence on other composers such as Giuseppe Verdi. Donizetti was born in Bergamo in Lombardy. At an early age he was taken up by Simon Mayr who enrolled him with a full scholarship in a school which he had set up. Slapstick Comedy
Slapstick is a style of humor involving exaggerated physical activity that exceeds the boundaries of normal physical comedy. Slapstick may involve both intentional violence and violence by mishap, often resulting from inept use of props such as saws and ladders. The term arises from a device developed for use in the broad, physical comedy style known as ''commedia dell'arte'' in 16th-century Italy. The " slap stick" consists of two thin slats of wood, which makes a "slap" when striking another actor, with little force needed to make a loud—and comical—sound. The physical slap stick remains a key component of the plot in the traditional and popular Punch and Judy puppet show. Carlos Ruiz Chapellín
Carlos Ruiz Chapellín (1865–August 1912) was a Venezuelan showman, filmmaker and performer around the turn of the 20th century. During this period, public entertainment began to grow in Venezuela. Having seen early examples of musical plays and films become popular, Ruiz Chapellín was inspired to produce for the theatre as well as cinema. Though film was a relatively brief intermission in his business as a showman and theatre producer, he is best remembered for creating slapstick comedy films in the late 19th century. He was one of the first filmmakers in Venezuela; unusually for the era, he created films which had attempts at narrative stories, rather than actuality, and showed his and other films in lower-class venues at a time when the technology was otherwise considered upper class.
