The Muar District is a Districts of Malaysia, district in Johor, Malaysia. Muar is located at the mouth of the Muar River, on the coast of the Straits of Malacca. The Muar District covers , with a population of 233,779 (2010). The district borders Tangkak District to the west, Segamat District to the north, and Batu Pahat District to the east. Muar (Muarian dialect: ''Muo'') or Bandar Maharani, is a historical town and the capital of Muar District, Johor, Malaysia. Muar River (Malaysia)
The Muar River () is a river which flows through the states of Negeri Sembilan and Johor in Malaysia. Its drainage basin encompasses the states aforementioned, as well as Pahang and Malacca. Measuring around 250 km (155 mi) in length, the Muar is the third longest river in Peninsular Malaysia after the rivers of Pahang and Perak, slightly longer than the Kelantan River. Muar Bypass (), or Federal Route 224, is a major highway bypass and the first highway built in Bandar Maharani Muar town, Muar, a royal town in Johor, Malaysia. The highway bypass linking Parit Bunga in the northwest to Parit Sakai in the southeast. The Kilometre Zero of the Federal Route 224 starts at Parit Sakai junctions. History Between the 1990s and the 2000s, traffic congestion was prevalent at the Sultan Ismail Bridge and Muar town centre since the official opening of the North–South Expressway Southern Route between Ayer Keroh and Pagoh and the opening of the Tangkak and Pagoh Interchange on 1 April 1989. The Muar State Railway (MSR) ''(Malay: Keretapi Kerajaan Muar ; Jawi: كريتاڤي كراجأن موار)'' was a railroad operating in the district of Muar in Johor, Malaya (now Malaysia). Significantly, the MSR was the second railway line to operate in Johor after the short-lived Johore Wooden Railway (JWR), and began operation in 1890, five years after the opening of Perak Railway's Taiping-Port Weld line.
