Mount Tekarra
Mount Tekarra is a mountain summit located in the Athabasca River valley of Jasper National Park, in the Canadian Rockies of Alberta, Canada. It is situated at the northwest end of the Maligne Range and is visible from Jasper and the Icefields Parkway. The nearest higher neighbor is The Watchtower, to the east. __NOTOC__ History The mountain was named by James Hector in 1859 for Tekarra, an Iroquois guide and hunter who accompanied Hector during his exploration of the Athabasca River during the Palliser Expedition. The first ascent of Mount Tekarra was made in 1915 by Morrison P. Bridgland (1878-1948), a Dominion Land Surveyor who named many peaks in Jasper Park and the Canadian Rockies. The mountain's name was officially adopted in 1947 by the Geographical Names Board of Canada. Roche Bonhomme
Roche Bonhomme is a mountain summit located in Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada. It is located in the Colin Range, which is a sub-range of the Canadian Rockies. The peak is situated northeast of the municipality of Jasper, and is a prominent landmark in the Athabasca Valley visible from Highway 16 and the Canadian. Its nearest higher peak is Grisette Mountain, to the east. Roche Bonhomme was named in 1878 by George Munro Grant for the fact it has an anthropomorphic shape. The French "Roche Bonhomme" translates to "Rock Fellow." The mountain's name was officially adopted in 1947 by the Geographical Names Board of Canada. The Whistlers
The Whistlers is a mountain summit located in Jasper National Park, in the Trident Range of the Canadian Rockies of Alberta, Canada. The municipality of Jasper, Alberta, Jasper is situated 7 kilometres to the northeast. Its nearest higher peak is Indian Ridge (Alberta), Indian Peak, to the southwest. Marmot Basin
Marmot Basin is an alpine ski area located on Marmot Mountain in Alberta's Jasper National Park. It has 91 named runs on four mountain faces with 3,000 vertical feet of drop. The area has a lift capacity of close to 12,000 skiers per hour on seven lifts. The season runs from mid-November to early May. It is located twenty minutes south of Jasper and sees two million visitors a year. Amenities The Rental & Repair shop offers rentals of skis, snowboards, boots, and poles. Maligne River
The Maligne River ( ) is a medium-sized river in the Canadian Rockies. It runs through parts of Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada. The Maligne is a major tributary of the Athabasca River. The river takes from the French word for malignant or wicked. It is theorised that a Belgian priest (Pieter Jan De Smet ) voyageur created this name in reference to the current of the river near its confluence with the Athabasca River. The Köppen climate classification is one of the most widely used climate classification systems. Laramide Orogeny
The Laramide orogeny was a time period of mountain building in western North America, which started in the Late Cretaceous, 70 to 80 million years ago, and ended 35 to 55 million years ago. The exact duration and ages of beginning and end of the orogeny are in dispute. The Laramide orogeny occurred in a series of pulses, with quiescent phases intervening.
