Mount Gilbert (Chugach Mountains)
Mount Gilbert is a prominent glaciated mountain summit located in the Chugach Mountains, in the U.S. state of Alaska. The peak is situated east of Anchorage, northeast of Whittier, Alaska, Whittier, and northeast of Mount Muir (Alaska), Mount Muir, on land managed by Chugach National Forest. Chugach Mountains
The Chugach Mountains of southern Alaska are the northernmost of the several mountain ranges that make up the Pacific Coast Ranges of the western edge of North America. The range is about long and wide, and extends from the Knik and Turnagain Arms of the Cook Inlet on the west to Bering Glacier, Tana Glacier, and the Tana River on the east. It is bounded on the north by the Matanuska, Copper, and Chitina rivers. The Köppen climate classification is one of the most widely used climate classification systems. Cordova, Alaska
Cordova ( ) is a city in Chugach Census Area, Alaska, United States. It lies near the mouth of the Copper River, at the head of Orca Inlet on the east side of Prince William Sound. The population was 2,609 at the 2020 census, up from 2,239 in 2010. Cordova was named ''Puerto Córdoba'' (after Córdoba, Spain) by Spanish explorer Salvador Fidalgo in 1790. No roads connect Cordova to other Alaskan communities, so a plane or ferry is required to travel there. Lockheed L-749A Constellation
The Lockheed L-749 Constellation is the first Lockheed Constellation to regularly cross the Atlantic Ocean non-stop. Although similar in appearance to the Lockheed L-649 Constellation, L-649 before it, the L-749 had a larger fuel capacity, strengthened landing gear, and eventually weather radar. Grove Karl Gilbert (May 6, 1843 – May 1, 1918), known by the abbreviated name G. K. Gilbert in academic literature, was an American geologist. Biography Gilbert was born in Rochester, New York and graduated from the University of Rochester.
