Motorcraft is an auto part brand owned and operated by Ford Motor Company. Products under the "Motorcraft" brand include spark plugs, batteries, brakes, fuel filter, A/C condensers and accumulators, motor oil, automatic transmission fluid, among other goods. History Ford launched this auto parts division in 1972 to provide replacement parts and original equipment parts. This brand replaced Autolite as Ford's official parts brand. Autolite or Auto-Lite is an American brand of spark plugs and ignition wire sets. Autolite products are sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Australia. Until 2011, the Autolite brand was a part of Honeywell's automotive Consumer Products Group, along with FRAM and Prestone. Since then, it has been manufactured and marketed by FRAM Group. Mercon is the trade name for a group of technical specifications of automatic transmission fluid created by Ford. The name is a registered trademark (later becoming a ''brand'') of Ford, which licenses the name and specifications to companies that manufacture the fluid and sell it under their own brand names. Not all Mercon fluids are licensed for reselling under another brand name. All licensed Mercon fluids must have a license number on the container. If no license number is found, the fluid may not be Ford approved and the automatic transmission fluid cannot be guaranteed to meet Ford specifications.
