Mort
''Mort'' is a fantasy novel by British writer Terry Pratchett. Published in 1987, it is the fourth ''Discworld'' novel and the first to focus on the character Death, who only appeared as a side character in the previous novels. The title is the name of its main character, and is also a play on words: in French and Catalan, ''mort'' means "death". The French language edition is titled ''Mortimer'', and the Catalan language edition is titled ''Morth''. In the BBC's 2003 Big Read contest, viewers voted on the "Nation's Best-loved Book"; ''Mort'' was among the Top 100 and chosen as the most popular of Pratchett's novels. In 2004, Pratchett stated that ''Mort'' was the first Discworld novel with which he was "pleased", stating that in previous books, the plot had existed to support the jokes, but that in ''Mort'', the plot was integral.Terry Pratchett

ÃŽle Des Morts
Île des Morts (''Island of the Dead'') is a 7-hectare island in the Bay of Roscanvel, to the south-west of the roadstead of Brest, between the Quélern peninsula and Île Longue. It is 26m above sea level at its highest point. History In 1720, the neighbouring island of Trébéron became a quarantine island or lazaret for lepers, with Île des Morts as its cemetery. During the 18th century, the arsenal at Brest was supplied with gunpowder from the powder-mills of Pont-de-Buis. Transported by boat, the gunpowder made a last stop at the île d'Arun, at the mouth of the River Aulne. However, the magazine on the île d'Arun was small and remote from Brest and was not convenient in the context of the Napoleonic Wars, with the British fleet blockading Brest. In 1808, Jean-Nicolas Trouille, director of the maritime works at Brest, decided to develop Île de Morts by adding powder magazines.Poudrières de l'île des Morts http://www.fortiff.be/iff/index.php?page=m189 The rock- ...

Mort's Dock
Mort's Dock is a former dry dock, slipway, and shipyard in Balmain, New South Wales, Australia. It was the first dry dock in Australia, opening for business in 1855 and closing more than a century later in 1959. The site is now parkland. History Mort Bay, J. S. Mort and his partners Mort Bay was originally known as Waterview Bay, and at the corner of the bay was the mouth of a small stream which ran down from Balmain Hill through the valley of Strathean. In 1842 James Reynolds purchased from Curtis an area of land bounded by what is now Curtis Road down to the water front between Mort and Church Streets, dammed the stream, built a stone house called "Strathean Cottage" and sold fresh water to the ships anchored in the deep calm waters of the Bay.EP NSW 2004: 12 The land was then sold to Captain Thomas Rowntree in 1853, who recognised the ...

MORT (long Non-coding RNA)
''MORT'' (Mortal Obligate RNA Transcript (also known as ''ZNF667-AS1'')) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) of the intergenic type ( lincRNA) that is specific to humans and great apes. The ''MORT'' transcript is produced in all mortal cell types, but is lost in a large fraction of the most common human cancers and therefore might have a tumor suppressive function. Genomic location The ''MORT'' gene is located on human chromosome 19, at position 56,989,000–57,007,000 ( hg19) within a cluster of zinc finger genes (ZNF genes). The ''MORT'' gene consists of 2 exons, 260 and 1270 bp, respectively, that are separated by a 16 kbp intron. A large portion of the second ''MORT'' exon is formed by repetitive elements – two LINEs and an LTR element. The ''MORT'' promoter is located in a CpG island that is shared with the ''ZNF667'' gene; the two genes reside in a head to head orientation with one another. Despite the ''MORT'' gene's location inside a cluster of ZNF genes, the ''MORT'' ...

Residence Time (fluid Dynamics)
The residence time of a fluid parcel is the total time that the parcel has spent inside a control volume (e.g.: a chemical reactor, a lake, a human body). The residence time of a set of parcels is quantified in terms of the frequency distribution of the residence time in the set, which is known as residence time distribution (RTD), or in terms of its average, known as mean residence time. Residence time plays an important role in chemistry and especially in environmental science and pharmacology. Under the name '' lead time'' or ''waiting time'' it plays a central role respectively in supply chain management and queueing theory, where the material that flows is usually discrete instead of continuous. History The concept of residence time originated in models of chemical reactors. The first such model was an ''axial dispersion model'' by Irving Langmuir in 1908. This received little attention for 45 years; other models were developed such as the plug flow reactor model an ...

1997 Pacific Typhoon Season
The 1997 Pacific typhoon season was a record-breaking season featuring 11 tropical cyclones reaching super typhoon intensity, tying the record with 1965 with the most violent tropical cyclones globally. It has no official bounds; it ran year-round in 1997, but most tropical cyclones tend to form in the northwestern Pacific Ocean between May and November. These dates conventionally delimit the period of each year when most tropical cyclones form in the northwestern Pacific Ocean. The scope of this article is limited to the Pacific Ocean, north of the equator and west of the International Date Line. Storms that form east of the Date Line and north of the equator are called hurricanes; see 1997 Pacific hurricane season. Tropical Storms formed in the entire west Pacific basin were assigned a name by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center. Tropical depressions in this basin have the "W" suffix added to their number. Tropical depressions that enter or form in the Philippine area of responsibi ...
