Malta was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 1994 with the song "More Than Love", composed by Christopher Scicluna, with lyrics by Moira Stafrace, and performed by Chris and Moira. The Maltese participating broadcaster, Public Broadcasting Services (PBS), selected its entry for the contest through a national final. Before Eurovision National final Public Broadcasting Services (PBS) held the national final on 5 February 1994 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, hosted by Lucienne Selvagi and John Bundy. Public Broadcasting Services Limited (PBS) is the public broadcaster of Malta. PBS is funded by government grants and the sale of commercial airtime. Its TVM channel is Malta's most watched television channel, and its radio station Magic Malta enjoys huge popularity among local and foreign listeners. Chris & Moira were a Maltese musical duo, formed by Moira Stafrace and Christopher Scicluna. They were best known for representing Malta in the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest. Life and career Stafrace was born in Malta in 1970. At the age of 12 she started her singing career. She bought a guitar and she started to sing with many bands. She took part in numerous festivals where she won many awards. In 1992 she was given the award for Best Personality in the music industry of her country. In 1993 she met and fell in love with a guitarist, Chris Scicluna. Scicluna was born in Malta in 8 July 1959 and started music studies at the age of 8 and spent most of the 1980s freelancing in the United Kingdom. The Eurovision Song Contest 1994 was the 39th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, held on 30 April 1994 at the Point Theatre in Dublin, Ireland. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster (RTÉ), and presented by Cynthia Ní Mhurchú and Gerry Ryan, the contest was held in Ireland following the country's victory at the with the song "In Your Eyes (Niamh Kavanagh song), In Your Eyes" by Niamh Kavanagh. Mediterranean Conference Centre
The Mediterranean Conference Centre (MCC, ) is a conference centre in Valletta, Malta. The building was built as a hospital in the 16th century by the Order of St. John, and it was known as the Sacra Infermeria or the Holy Infirmary (). It was known as the Grand Hôspital during the French occupation of Malta and during the British period was named as the Station Hospital. It was one of the leading hospitals in Europe until the 18th century, and remained in use until 1920. It had a capacity to keep from 500 to 2,500 patients. The building is now used for multiple banquets, exhibitions, international conventions and theatrical shows. Georgina Abela
Georgina Abela (born 23 April 1959) is a Maltese singer and actress. She is best known for representing Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest on several occasions, either as an entrant, backing vocalist or songwriter. Career Abela began singing at a young age, and competed in children's festivals in her youth. As an adult, she started her singing career in the heavy metal and rock scene, continuing into the 1980s. In 1985, she gained exposure after singing in a TV show, and was able to perform in and clubs across Malta and festivals further afield. In 1991, Abela represented Malta at Eurovision, where she sang the duet "Could it be" with Paul Giordimaina. The duo came 6th in the competition. She returned to the contest the following year, this time as co-songwriter (with Raymond Mahoney) of Malta's song, "Little Child". Nazzareno Alessandro Micallef Garrett, better known by his stage name Renato Micallef (born 19 November 1951) is a Maltese pop singer. Renato has been active in the Maltese music scene since the age of 12. Renato has toured North America, Australia and the United Kingdom where his website claims he won an award for Singer Of The Year in 1980. Malta has been represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 37 times since its debut in . The current Maltese participating broadcaster in the contest is the Public Broadcasting Services (PBS).
