The Monument to the Victims of the Holocaust () is a monument in Madrid, Spain, in memory of the victims of the Holocaust during World War II. It is located in the Three Cultures Garden () in Juan Carlos I Park. Inaugurated in 2007, the monument was the first Holocaust memorial in Spain. Context and history The establishment of a permanent Holocaust memorial coincided with increased attention to Holocaust remembrance in Spain, between late 2004 and May 2005, ahead of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Mauthausen concentration camp, where more than 16,000 Spaniards were killed. Mauthausen held thousands of Spanish political prisoners who opposed the Franco regime. Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón
Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón Jiménez (born 11 December 1958) is a Spanish politician and former Minister of Justice. He was mayor of Madrid between 2003 and 2011. A stalwart of the conservative People's Party (PP), he has previously been a leading figure in various local and national legislative bodies.
