Monument To Tofiq Bahramov
Monument to Tofiq Bahramov ( az, Tofiq Bəhramovun heykəli) is a monument to the Azerbaijani Soviet referee and judge of international category Tofiq Bahramov. It is located in the front of the training centre building next to the Baku Republican Stadium named after Bahramov. The sculptor Mamednijat Salakhov is the author of the monument. This is the worlds first monument to a football referee. History According to Akif Ismayilov, the director of the Republican Stadium, by the end of May 2004, the competition for the best work to create a monument to Tofiq Bahramov was completed. Out of the 12 sculpture projects presented by eight contestants, the work of Mammadnijat Salakhov, who received an award of 5 million manat, was recognized as the best. The competent jury approved the full-length sculpture of Tofiq Bahramov with an outstretched hand as if pointing towards the centre of the field. Tofiq Bahramov
Tofiq Bahramov ( az, Tofiq Bəhramov; ; russian: Тофик Бахрамов; 29 January 1925 – 26 March 1993) was a Soviet footballer and football referee from Azerbaijan. He was notable for being the linesman who helped to award a contentious goal for England in the 1966 FIFA World Cup Final against West Germany. He came to be wrongly referred to as "the Russian linesman" in England as a result of his decision and his Soviet citizenship, although he was not Russian but Azerbaijani. As a referee earlier in the tournament, he drew attention for denying a Swiss goal in a first-round game between Switzerland and Spain. After his death in 1993, Azerbaijan's then national stadium was renamed the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium in his honor. 2006 FIFA World Cup
The 2006 FIFA World Cup, also branded as Germany 2006, was the 18th FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international football world championship tournament. It was held from 9 June to 9 July 2006 in Germany, which had won the right to host the event in July 2000. Teams representing 198 national football associations from all six populated continents participated in the qualification process which began in September 2003. Thirty-one teams qualified from this process along with hosts Germany for the finals tournament. It was the second time that Germany staged the competition and the first as a unified country along with the former East Germany with Leipzig as a host city (the other was in 1974 in West Germany), and the 10th time that the tournament was held in Europe. Abulfaz Garayev
Abulfas Mursal oglu Garayev ( az, Əbülfəs Mürsəl oğlu Qarayev; born 13 November 1956) is an Azerbaijani politician, who served as the Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan. Early life and educational background Garayev was born on November 13, 1956, in Baku, Azerbaijan. He graduated from the Azerbaijan University of Languages in 1978. From 1978 until 1980, he worked as the teacher of English in a secondary school in Saatly Rayon. In 1980-1989, he held various positions within the Azerbaijan Communist Party. In 1992, he completed a course at the North-West Academy of Public Administration in Russia. In 1992 through 1993, Garayev worked as a professor at the Azerbaijani Academy of Public Administration. Geoff Hurst
Sir Geoffrey Charles Hurst (born 8 December 1941) is an English former professional footballer. A striker, he became the first man to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final when England recorded a 4–2 victory over West Germany at Wembley Stadium in 1966. Hurst began his career with West Ham United, where he scored 242 goals in 500 first team appearances. There he won the FA Cup in 1964 and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1965. He was sold to Stoke City in 1972 for £80,000. After three seasons with Stoke, where he won the Watney Cup in 1973, he finished his Football League career with West Bromwich Albion in 1976. Michel François Platini (born 21 June 1955) is a French association football, football Administrator (business), administrator and former player and manager. Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium
The Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium ( az, Tofiq Bəhramov adına Respublika Stadionu) is a multi-purpose stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan. It is currently used mostly for football matches. It served as the home ground for the Azerbaijan national football team until they moved to the Baku Olympic Stadium. It holds 31,200 seats making it the second largest stadium in the country. The stadium is also used by the Azerbaijan Premier League clubs in the final rounds of European competitions. History The Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium was built in 1951. Its construction started before World War II in 1939, but was suspended. When its construction resumed, it was finished by German prisoners of war.
