Monte Stella (Calabria)
Monte Stella is a mountain in the Serre Calabresi, in the Locride, Calabria, southern Italy. It is part of the Vallata dello Stilaro, in the ''comune'' of Pazzano. Monte Stella is composed of Jurassic limestones. History At the base of the limestone rocks, at their conjunction with a Paleozoic bed, are limonite (iron mineral) rocks whose exploitation started from around 1000 CE. The mines continued to work until the late 19th century. Until the 17th century the mountain was home to a Hermit of Santa Maria della Stella, hermitage of Orthodox monks, later replaced by Basilian monks. In the cave of the Hermit of Santa Maria della Stella, sanctuary is a statue in Sicilian style, sculpted in 1562. Monte Stella is a mountain the Lucan Subappennines, with an elevation of 1,131 m, located in Cilento, Campania, southern Italy. Geography At his slopes there are located the villages of Omignano, Stella Cilento, Serramezzana, Sessa Cilento, San Mauro Cilento, Pollica, San Mango Cilento, Perdifumo, Castellabate, Montecorice, Lustra and Rutino. On the summit is located a radar station and the "Madonna del Monte Stella" church. History On the top of the Stella mountain it has been identified a prehistoric megalithic center which dates back to at least the 3rd millennium BC., as suggested the discovery of a flint knife in the Serramezzana district. Monte Stella (Milan)
Monte Stella ("Starmount"), also informally called Montagnetta di San Siro ("Little mountain of San Siro") is an artificial hill and surrounding city park in Milan, Italy. The park, established in the 1950s, has an overall area of 370,000 m2. The hill was created using the debris from the buildings that were bombed during World War II, as well as from the last remnants of the Spanish walls of the city, demolished in the mid 20th century. The park is located in the QT8 district. This was an experimental district that was completely designed after the World War. The hill itself was designed by architect Piero Bottoni, who led the team of architects who contributed to the QT8 project. Bottoni dedicated the hill to his wife, Stella. The hill is 45 m high; according to the original design, it should have been twice as high, but it was later redesigned to avoid damaging buildings in the nearby street Via Isernia as a consequence of side pressure.
