Monroe Moccasins (FPHL)
The Monroe Moccasins are a professional ice hockey team based in Monroe, Louisiana. They play at the Monroe Civic Center and are a member of the Federal Prospects Hockey League. Their inaugural season is the 2024–25 season. The franchise is named after the original Monroe Moccasins who played in the Western Professional Hockey League from 1997 to 2001. History The Moccasins were announced on June 5, 2024, during a press conference held at the Monroe Civic Center. The team is owned by Perkin Hockey Group, led by New Orleans–based businessman Nicolas Perkin and Managing Partner Parker Moskal. The team named their president and Managing Partner, Parker Moskal, a veteran of over 100 FPHL games. Moskal announced the first signings for the team, forwards Marquis Grant-Mentis and Kyle Stevens. Monroe is the ninth-largest city in the U.S. state of Louisiana, and is the parish seat and largest city of Ouachita Parish. Federal Prospects Hockey League
The Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) is a professional ice hockey independent minor league with teams in the Midwestern, Southern, and Northeastern United States. The FPHL began operations in November 2010 as the Federal Hockey League. Don Kirnan is the league's commissioner. The league also occasionally branded itself as the Federal Professional Hockey League from 2015 to 2018 until it began using the name Federal Prospects Hockey League and completing the rebrand in 2019. History 2010–11: inaugural season In its inaugural season, the league had a salary cap of $5,050 per week. The roster was limited to 20 players for the first six games and 17 thereafter. The Monroe Civic Center is a 7,600-seat, full-service, multi-purpose arena located in Monroe, Louisiana, built in 1965. The facility is home to the Monroe Moccasins ice hockey team and was previously home to the original Monroe Moccasins and the Louisiana Bayou Beast indoor football team. Monroe Moccasins
The Monroe Moccasins were a professional ice hockey team that played in the Western Professional Hockey League. Based in Monroe, Louisiana from 1997 until the end of the 2001 season, the team played its home games at the Monroe Civic Center. History Monroe was awarded an expansion franchise in May 1997 slated to begin play that October. After early troubles with ownership and securing home ice at the civic center, the team would begin the season by going 4-3 on the road before playing their first home game before a sold out crowd on November 8. Coached by Rob Bremner, the team would see moderate success for their inaugural season finishing one game out of the playoffs and averaging 3,178 fans per game. The Western Professional Hockey League (abbreviated WPHL) was a minor professional ice hockey league. The WPHL operated from 1996 to 2001 with teams based in the southern United States, primarily Texas and Louisiana. The Athens Rock Lobsters are a professional ice hockey team based in Athens, Georgia. Their home is at the Akins Ford Arena and they are a member of the Federal Prospects Hockey League.
