Alexander Monkman (March 29, 1870 – September 26, 1941) was a Canadian Métis pioneer trader and leader of the farmers in the Lake Saskatoon area of Alberta. He discovered Monkman Pass and led the push to build a highway through it in the 1930s. Eric Monkman (born ) is a Canadian academic and television personality based in the United Kingdom. Monkman comes from Oakville, Ontario, Canada. His father, a doctor, died when Eric was thirteen. Monkman obtained his first degree from the University of Waterloo and then studied for a master's degree in economics at Wolfson College, Cambridge, when he captained the college's ''University Challenge'' team. The team lost in the 2017 final to a team from Balliol College, Oxford. His girlfriend, Jiang Na teaches law at Beijing Normal University. Viewers described him as the most intense contestant ever: a reviewer called him an "unexpected hero". Francis Monkman
Anthony Francis Keigwin Monkman (9 June 1949 – 12 May 2023) was an English rock, classical and film score composer, and a founding member of both the progressive rock band Curved Air and the classical/rock fusion band Sky. Life and career Early years Francis Monkman was the son of Kenneth Monkman, an authority on the writer Laurence Sterne and Vita née Duncombe Mann. He was a pupil at Westminster School, where he studied organ and harpsichord, later studying at the Royal Academy of Music, winning the Raymond Russell prize for virtuosity on the harpsichord and becoming a member of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. Wanting to experiment with more spontaneous music forms, Monkman learned how to play guitar and began to associate himself with rock music. Kent Monkman (born 13 November 1965) is a First Nations in Canada, First Nations artist of Cree ancestry. He is a member of the Fisher River Cree Nation, Fisher River nation situated in Manitoba's Interlake Region. Monkman lives and works between Toronto and New York City. He works in painting, film/video art, performance art and installation art. In the early 2000s, Monkman developed his two-spirit alter ego, Miss Chief Eagle Testickle. Noel Monkman
Noel Monkman (1896–1969) was an Australian filmmaker, born in New Zealand, best known for specialising in underwater photography. He was a press photographer in New Zealand before moving to Australia and jointing the Orpheum Theatre orchestra. He established Australian Educational Films with F.W. Thring, directing a series of educational nature films about the Great Barrier Reef. He later made several documentaries as well as two dramatic feature films. He collaborated throughout his career with his wife Kitty. Percy Monkman
Percy Monkman, entertainer, actor and painter (1892–1986), was born in Bradford where he lived until retirement (1952) when he moved to Baildon away at the edge of the moors. Life In 1909, aged 17, he joined Beckett's Bank (which was taken over by The Westminster Bank in 1921). A year after World War I broke out, he joined the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC). After a few months he found a talent for entertaining other soldiers as a pierrot with the 13th Corps Concert Party and did this for the rest of the war in up to 300 events. After the war, he returned to the bank in Bradford and continued as a compere and comedian. In 1935, he joined the Bradford Civic Theatre, where he performed in many productions, usually in comic roles. Phyllis Monkman (8 January 1892 – 2 December 1976) was a British stage and film actress. She was married to the entertainer Laddie Cliff. In the early years of her career, she was often partnered on stage by Jack Buchanan and appeared in the silent film '' Her Heritage'' with him in 1919. Monkman Provincial Park
Monkman Provincial Park is a provincial park in British Columbia, southwest of Tumbler Ridge and northeast of Hansard (railway point), Hansard. Like Monkman Pass, Monkman Lake, Monkman Creek and Monkman Falls, it was named after Alexander Monkman. History By the early 1960s, a strong local interest emerged to create a national park, with a proposed name of Canada Centennial Park. Covering approximately a 100-mile long and 30-mile wide section of the Monkman area, a 1970 report proposed a freeze on further land leases for resources extraction, and the formation of a wilderness park. The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George opposed the plan because of its impact on resource development. In due course, the government banned all off-road vehicular access to prevent ground cover damage. Established in 1981, the park covers 62,867 hectares.
