Monkey (advertising Character)
Monkey (also known as The Monkey, ITV Digital Monkey or PG Tips Monkey, and often pronounced in imitation of Johnny Vegas' Lancashire dialect and accent, Lancashire accent), is a puppet advertising character in the form of a knitting, knitted sock monkey. He was first produced by The Jim Henson Company via their UK Creature Shop, his puppeteers are Nigel Plaskitt and Susan Beattie, he was formerly voiced by comedian Ben Miller and is now currently voiced by comedian Ivo Graham. Monkey has appeared in advertising, advertising campaigns in the United Kingdom for both the defunct television company ITV Digital and the tea brand PG Tips, as well as being occasionally featured in TV Programmes, and making more obscure appearances. Monkey is a common name that may refer to most mammals of the infraorder Simiiformes, also known as simians. The Gadget Shop
The Gadget Shop (stylised gadgetshop) was a national British high-street chain of stores, predominantly selling gadgets, toys and lighting products, founded by Jonathan Elvidge in 1991. At its height, it was one of the leading UK novelty gadget retailers. The chain went into administration in 2005, and subsequently closed. Its assets have previously been owned by The Entertainer, and are currently owned by WHSmith. History Jonathan Elvidge founded the chain in 1991. The ideology behind the chain was that its target market would be a retail experience for teenagers and young adults, offering the sale of DVD players, audio and computer equipment, alongside novelty toys. The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain (UOGB) is a British musical ensemble founded in 1985 by George Hinchliffe and Kitty Lux. The orchestra features ukuleles of various sizes and registers from soprano to bass. The UOGB is best known for performing musically faithful but often tongue-in-cheek covers of popular songs and musical pieces from a wide variety of music genres taken "from the rich pageant of western music". The songs are often performed with a reinterpretation, sometimes with a complete genre twist, or well known songs from multiple genres are seamlessly woven together. Comic Relief is a British charity, founded in 1986 by the comedy scriptwriter Richard Curtis and comedian Sir Lenny Henry in response to the 1983–1985 famine in Ethiopia. The concept of Comic Relief was to get British comedians to make the public laugh, while raising money to help people around the world and in the United Kingdom.
