Monirul Islam (artist)
Monirul Islam (also known as Monir, born 17 August 1943) is a Bangladeshi-Spanish artist. Monir is an International figure in etching for his signature style and experimental techniques. For his great accomplishment in art, he received two of Spain's top civilian honors: the Cross of Officer of the Order of Queen Isabella (2010), and the Commander Spanish Order of Merit (2018), and Bangladesh Government's civilian award Ekushey Padak in 1999. Education and career Monir was born in Chandpur, Bengal Presidency of British India, present-day Bangladesh. He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Dhaka during 1966-1969 when Zainul Abedin and Mustafa Monwar were his teachers and mentors. He also taught there as a faculty member for one year. With a scholarship from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain, he graduated in mural paintings from the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. Manirul Islam Monir (born 1 March 1952) is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and a former member of parliament for Barisal-2. Early life Manirul was born on 1 March 1952. His father Rafiqul Islam was the president of Barisal District NAP and a professor of Bangla and philosophy in BM College. Mother Mahmuda Rafiq was a poet, writer and teacher. He and his brothers Zahidul Islam Mahmud Jami and Maidul Islam Chuni played a heroic role in the great liberation war in Sector 9. His sister Nargis Rafika Rahman was a journalist. Manirul Islam Sarkar (; 1965 – 3 December 2017) was an Indian Bengali politician and teacher. He was the former two-time member of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly for the Phulbari Assembly Constituency in West Garo Hills district. Monirul Islam is a first-class and List A cricketer from Bangladesh. He was born on 25 August 1980 in Khulna, Bangladesh and is a right-handed batsman and slow left arm orthodox spin bowler.
