A poppy is a flowering plant in the subfamily Papaveroideae of the family Papaveraceae. Poppies are herbaceous plants, often grown for their colourful flowers. One species of poppy, '' Papaver somniferum'', is the source of the narcotic drug mixture opium, which contains powerful medicinal alkaloids such as morphine and has been used since ancient times as an analgesic and narcotic medicinal and recreational drug. Mohn Basin
The Scott Glacier () is a major glacier, long, that drains the East Antarctic Ice Sheet through the Queen Maud Mountains to the Ross Ice Shelf. The Scott Glacier is one of a series of major glaciers flowing across the Transantarctic Mountains, with the Amundsen Glacier to the west and the Leverett and Reedy glaciers to the east. Geography The Scott Glacier originates on the Antarctic Plateau in the vicinity of D'Angelo Bluff and Mount Howe, and descends between the Nilsen Plateau and the mountains of the Watson Escarpment to enter Ross Ice Shelf just west of the Tapley Mountains. The Tapley Mountains, Watson Escarpment, Mount Blackburn, and the La Gorce Mountains bound the Scott Glacier on its eastern margin, while the Karo Hills, Hays Mountains, Faulkner Escarpment, and Rawson Mountains define the western edge of the Scott's drainage. Mohn Peaks
Kemp Peninsula () is an irregular ice-covered peninsula long in a north–south direction and wide. The peninsula rises gently to and projects east between the heads of Mason Inlet and Mossman Inlet, on the east coast of Palmer Land, Antarctica. Location The Kemp Peninsula is on the Lassiter Coast of southern Palmer Land, beside the Weddell Sea to the east. Mason Inlet is to the north, fed by Clowes Glacier. The coastal ice sheet extends north from Mason Inlet to Cape Herdman, at the south of the mouth of Violante Inlet. The northern point of the peninsula is Cape Mackintosh. The Wegener Range is to the east. Cape Deacon is near the southern point. Mossman Inlet is to the south, just north of New Bedford Inlet and east of Mount Pawson and Mohn Peaks on the mainland. Mohn Islands
The Mona Islands or Mohn Islands () is a group of a few scattered small islands covered with tundra vegetation. They are located in the Kara Sea, about 30 km north of the western coast of the Taymyr Peninsula in Siberia, Russia. Etymology The Mona Islands were named by Fridtjof Nansen after Henrik Mohn, a Norwegian meteorologist. Mohn worked out and published the meteorological observations of various polar expeditions, including those of Nansen in the "Fram" (1893–1896). "Mona" is a genitive case in Russian, meaning "(islands) of Mon" and this name has stuck, especially since the Germans used ("Mona Inseln"), based on the Russian version of the name, during their campaigns in World War II.
