''Modes of Transportation Vol. 2: What's a Boy to Do?'' is an album released by Spookey Ruben in 1998, and was only ever released in Japan, but is now available as an import through Amazon.com and by digital release. The album had three singles reach the top 20 following its Japanese release. Tracks from this album later appeared on his double album Bed and Breakfast more than three years later. In an interview, Spookey explained, "I got permission to use them (to re-use for the double album). They’re VT Recordsgoing to get a cut off this record." Reception As this album was never commercially released in the United States, there are very few reviews published for it. Spookey Ruben
Spookey Ruben (born Alan Deil) is a Canadian musician, producer, songwriter, composer, and filmmaker. Best known for his song and music video "These Days Are Old", Spookey's songwriting and eccentric production techniques often contrast high and low vocals, analogue keyboards, found sounds, sampled beats and stringed instruments such as electric and Spanish guitar. Spookey has released seven full-length solo albums. Early life Due to his father's work as an ESA aerospace engineer, Spookey grew up in Germany, the Netherlands, and Washington, D.C. In his childhood, Spookey's parents insisted he take up an instrument and so he chose classical guitar. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. A hi-hat (hihat, high-hat, etc.) is a combination of two cymbals and a pedal, all mounted on a metal stand. It is a part of the standard drum kit used by drummers in many styles of music including rock, pop, jazz, and blues. Hi-hats consist of a matching pair of small to medium-sized cymbals mounted on a stand, with the two cymbals facing each other. The bottom cymbal is fixed and the top is mounted on a rod which moves the top cymbal toward the bottom one when the pedal is depressed (a hi-hat that is in this position is said to be "closed" or "closed hi-hats"). ''Bed and Breakfast'' are two albums released by Spookey Ruben. Originally released as singular albums in 2001 and 2002, they were re-packaged to a two cd set for worldwide release in 2006. In 1997, Spookey delivered tapes of what was then two EP-length releases, Bed and Breakfast. TVT wasn't too keen on what they heard, and grew increasingly nervous about the concept behind the double release. He returned to work on more demos, while his frustration grew, and this turned out to be the truncated version of these two albums, Modes of Transportation Vol. 2: What's a Boy to do?. Music videos were released for, "Brand New Game", "Glenn, Take Care", "Sex Traffic" and "Shauna".
