Modern Pentathlon At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's
The women's modern pentathlon at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo was held on 5 and 6 August 2021. Two venues were used: Musashino Forest Sport Plaza (fencing) and Tokyo Stadium (swimming, horse-riding and combined running and shooting). Schedule All times are Japan Standard Time (UTC+9) Results Thirty-six athletes participated. ;Key: Records Criticism of the Riding discipline The riding discipline of the pentathlon attracted criticism after multiple athletes struggled to control their randomly-assigned horses. German modern pentathlete, Annika Schleu was leading the competition when she was unable to successfully complete the show jumping event, moving her from first to last place, and an eventual 31st place. The horse named Saint Boy was randomly assigned from a pool of 18, refused to jump three barriers in the second half of the equestrian course. Musashino Forest Sport Plaza
The is a multi-sport venue located in Chōfu, Tokyo, Chōfu, Tokyo, Japan. The main arena has a seating capacity of over 10,000, and also includes a swimming pool, a gym, a multi-use sports area and two fitness studios, that is available for use by the general public. It is the first new venue completed for Tokyo 2020. Construction took three and a half years and cost over $300 million to complete. Joanna Muir (born 30 August 1994) is a British former modern pentathlete, who was part of the British squad that won the team event at the 2019 European Modern Pentathlon Championships, and came second in the women's relay event at the 2016 World Modern Pentathlon Championships.
