Mo Cheol Thú
''Mo Cheol Thú'' (literally "you are my music": a traditional expression of praise in the south-west of Ireland for any outstanding feat ), also carries the meaning "you are my darling" [Dinneen 1927 Edition p.186] and "I love you", was a radio programme of Folk music of Ireland, Irish traditional music broadcast by Radio Éireann (later RTÉ Radio 1) for three quarters of an hour each Sunday morning between 1970 and 2005. One of Irish radio's longest running programmes and presented by broadcaster Ciarán Mac Mathúna, the series came to an end with Mac Mathúna's retirement in 2005. RTÉ Radio 1 () is an Irish national radio station owned and operated by RTÉ and is the direct descendant of Dublin radio station 2RN, which began broadcasting on a regular basis on 1 January 1926. The total budget for the station in 2010 was €18.4 million. It is the most-listened-to radio station in Ireland. History The Department of Posts and Telegraphs opened 2RN, the first Irish radio station, on 1 January 1926. Station 6CK, a Cork relay of 2RN, joined the Dublin station in 1927, and a high-power transmitter at Athlone in County Westmeath opened in 1932. Ciarán Mac Mathúna
Ciarán Mac Mathúna (26 November 1925 – 11 December 2009) was an Irish broadcaster and music collector. He was a recognised authority on Irish traditional music and lectured extensively on the subject. He travelled around Ireland, England, Scotland and America collecting music. According to Sam Smyth in the ''Irish Independent'', Mac Mathúna was "on a mission to collect songs and stories, music, poetry and dance before they were buried under the coming tsunami of pop music". He presented the radio programme, ''Mo Cheol Thú'', for 35 years. Upon his retirement in 2005, the managing director of RTÉ Radio, Adrian Moynes, described Mac Mathúna as "inseparable from RTÉ Radio". Donnybrook () is a district of Dublin, Republic of Ireland, Ireland, on the southside (Dublin), southside of the city, in the Dublin 4 postal district.
