Mixed-gender Band
A mixed-gender band is a musical group in popular music that is composed of both male and female musicians, including instrumentalists, and is not entirely limited to vocalists, the latter being a co-ed group. Historically, such arrangements have been rare, with a substantial majority of bands being all male. This has been attributed to both social pressures making males more likely to take up musical instruments typical of a band such as guitars and drums, and the history of forming bands as an exercise in male bonding. Most mixed-gender bands feature a lineup of male instrumentalists with one female member as lead vocalist. A smaller number of mixed-gender bands feature multiple female members, or female members performing primarily as instrumentalists. Fleetwood Mac Billboard 1977
Fleetwood is a coastal town in the Borough of Wyre in Lancashire, England, at the northwest corner of the Fylde. It had a population of 25,939 at the 2011 United Kingdom census, 2011 census. Fleetwood acquired its modern character in the 1830s, when the principal landowner Peter Hesketh-Fleetwood, High Sheriff and MP, conceived an ambitious plan to re-develop the town to make it a busy seaport and railway spur. He commissioned the Victorian architect Decimus Burton to design a number of substantial civic buildings, including two lighthouses. Hesketh-Fleetwood's transport terminus schemes failed to materialise. The town expanded greatly in the first half of the 20th century with the growth of the fishing industry, and passenger ferries to the Isle of Man, to become a Fishing trawler, deep-sea fishing port. Melissa Gaboriau Auf der Maur (; born March 17, 1972) is a Canadian musician. Auf der Maur began performing in 1993 after forming the indie rock band Tinker (band), Tinker while she was a student at Concordia University. She was recruited as the bassist for the American alternative rock band Hole (band), Hole in the summer of 1994 and is included on several Hole releases, including the album ''Celebrity Skin'' (1998). The Carpenters
The Carpenters were an American vocal and instrumental duo consisting of siblings Karen Carpenter, Karen (1950–1983) and Richard Carpenter (musician), Richard Carpenter (born 1946). They produced a distinctive soft musical style, combining Karen's contralto vocals with Richard's harmonizing, arranging, and composition. During their 14-year career, the Carpenters recorded 10 albums along with many singles and several television specials. The siblings were born in New Haven, Connecticut, but moved to Downey, California, in 1963. Richard took piano lessons as a child, progressing to California State University, Long Beach, while Karen learned the drums. Best Coast
Best Coast is an American rock duo formed in Los Angeles, California in 2009, currently on hiatus. The band consisted of songwriter, guitarist and vocalist Bethany Cosentino and guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Bobb Bruno. Cosentino, a former child actress, began writing music as a teenager and was formerly a member of the experimentalist drone group Pocahaunted. After a brief stint at college in New York City, Cosentino returned to the West Coast and began recording lo-fi demos with Bruno, whom she met in the Los Angeles music scene. After a string of 7-inch and cassette-only singles, the band signed to Mexican Summer, who issued the band's debut, '' Crazy for You'', in 2010. Blood Red Shoes are an English alternative rock duo from Brighton consisting of and Steven Ansell. They have released six full-length albums, '' Box of Secrets'' (2008), '' Fire Like This'' (2010), '' In Time to Voices'' (2012), '' Blood Red Shoes'' (2014), '' Get Tragic'' (2019) and '' Ghosts on Tape'' (2022) as well as several EPs and a number of singles. Ashford & Simpson were an American husband-and-wife songwriting, production and recording duo composed of Nickolas Ashford (May 4, 1941 – August 22, 2011) and Valerie Simpson (born August 26, 1946). Ashford was born in Fairfield, South Carolina, and Simpson in the Bronx, New York City. Ashford's family relocated to Ypsilanti, Michigan, where he became a member of Christ Temple Baptist Church. While there, he sang with a group called the Hammond Singers (named after the founding minister, James Hammond). Later, Ashford attended and graduated from Willow Run High School in Ypsilanti, Michigan, before pursuing his professional career, when he would ultimately meet his wife, Valerie Simpson. Homosociality
In sociology, homosociality means same-sex friendships that are not of a romantic or sexual nature, such as friendship, mentorship, or others. Researchers who use the concept mainly do so to explain how men uphold men's dominance in society. ''Homosocial'' was popularized by Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick in her discussion of ''male homosocial desire''. Sedgwick used the term to distinguish from ''homosexual'' and to connote a form of male bonding often accompanied by fear or hatred of homosexuality.
