Missing Persons Cases Along U.S. Route 29 In Virginia
Since 1996, there has been an unusually high number of cases involving young women disappearing along U.S. Route 29 in Virginia, U.S. Route 29 (US 29) in Virginia, or an area known as the "Route 29 Corridor". Five young women disappeared in five years between 2009 and 2014, earning it a particularly notorious reputation. Of the nine murders/disappearances, only the cases of Murder of Morgan Dana Harrington, Morgan Dana Harrington (2009), Murder of Alexis Murphy, Alexis Murphy (2013) and Murder of Hannah Graham, Hannah Graham (2014) were solved ending in convictions of their murderers, the other cases are still unsolved. ''The Daily Progress'' is the sole daily newspaper in the vicinity of Charlottesville, Virginia, United States. It has been published daily, since September 14, 1892. The paper was founded by James Hubert Lindsay and his brother Frank Lindsay. The ''Progress'' was initially published six days a week; the first Sunday edition was printed in September 1968. Alexis Murphy Abduction
On August 3, 2013, 17-year-old American teenager Alexis Tiara Murphy from Nelson County, Virginia disappeared after being seen at a gas station in Lovingston, Virginia. Evidence was recovered from a vehicle and camper (referred to as a trailer by some outlets) belonging to 48-year-old Randy Taylor. Taylor was put on trial for Murphy's murder on May 1, 2014. He was found guilty a week later and given two life sentences. Taylor was also linked to the disappearance of Virginia teenager Samantha Clarke, who went missing in 2010. On December 3, 2020, remains were located on private property in Lovingston. The remains were transported to the Central District Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) in Richmond and positively identified as Alexis Murphy on February 5, 2021.
