''Missing and Murdered'' is a true crime podcast investigating the disappearances of Indigenous people in Canada, also known as the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women crisis. It is produced by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and hosted by Cree journalist Connie Walker (Okanese First Nation). The show won Best Serialized Story at the 2018 Third Coast International Audio Festival and Kari Paul wrote in ''The Guardian'' that the show is a "rare and elusive non-exploitative true crime podcast". Operation Identify Me
Operation Identify Me was launched on 10 May 2023 by Interpol to solve cold cases across Western Europe to identify 22 unidentified women who were found deceased in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany between 1976 and 2019. Most of the women were murdered, and have never been identified. A public appeal was made for information surrounding the unidentified women. Interpol alongside Dutch, German, and Belgian police forces released forensic facial reconstructions as well as other information used in the investigations. It is believed some of the murdered women may be from parts of Eastern Europe. The second phase of the project was launched in October 2024. Missing white woman syndrome is a term used by some social scientists and media commentators to denote perceived disproportionate media coverage, especially on television, of missing-person cases toward white females as compared to males, or females of color.
