Missa De Beata Virgine (Brumel)
The ''Missa de Beata Virgine'' is a musical setting of the Ordinary of the Mass, by Renaissance music, Renaissance composer Josquin des Prez. Though formerly believed to have been a late composition on the basis of stylistic analysis (Osthoff asserts 1513), evidence from Burchard’s Diary proves that the mass was written sometime before September 23, 1497. Josquin Lebloitte dit des Prez ( – 27 August 1521) was a composer of High Renaissance music, who is variously described as French or Franco-Flemish. Considered one of the greatest composers of the Renaissance, he was a central figure of the Franco-Flemish School and had a profound influence on the music of 16th-century Europe. Building on the work of his predecessors Guillaume Du Fay and Johannes Ockeghem, he developed a complex style of expressive—and often Imitation (music), imitative—movement between independent voices (polyphony) which informs much of his work. Alejandro Enrique Planchart (29 July 1935 – 28 April 2019) was a Venezuelan-American musicologist, conductor, and composer. He was considered to be one of the leading scholars on the music of Guillaume Du Fay; more broadly, he was a specialist on music of the Middle Ages and early Renaissance music. He was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and moved to the United States to study at Yale University, where he received the degrees of Mus.B. (1958) and Mus.M. (1960). Jeremy Noble (27 March 1930 – 30 June 2017) was an English musicologist and music critic who specialized in classical music. His career comprised two fields, musicological scholarship and music criticism. Johannes Ockeghem
Johannes Ockeghem ( – 6 February 1497) was a Franco-Flemish composer and singer of early Renaissance music. Ockeghem was a significant European composer in the period between Guillaume Du Fay and Josquin des Prez, and he was—with his colleague Antoine Busnois—a prominent European composer in the second half of the 15th century.
