Misbahul Islam Laskar is an Indian politician. He was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly from Barkhola in the 2021 Assam Legislative Assembly election as a member of the Indian National Congress. He previously served from 1996 to 2006. He served as the Minister of Cooperation and Tourism from 2001 to 2006 in Tarun Gogoi's first cabinet. Assam Legislative Assembly
The Assam Legislative Assembly is the unicameral legislature of the Indian state of Assam. It is housed in Guwahati, the capital city of Assam, geographically situated in present Western Assam region. The Legislative Assembly comprises 126 Members of Legislative Assembly, directly elected from single-seat constituencies. Its term is five years, unless sooner dissolved. History According to provisions of the Government of India Act 1935, a bicameral legislature of Assam province came into existence in 1937. First Tarun Gogoi Ministry
Tarun Gogoi constituted his first ministry and became the 13th Chief Minister of Assam on 17 May 2001. Following the 2001 Assam Legislative Assembly election, Gogoi became Chief Minister succeeding AGP chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta. There were 12 cabinet ministers and 4 ministers of state in the ministry. Gogoi along with his cabinet was sworn in by governor Srinivas Kumar Sinha, succeeding Prafulla Kumar Mahanta as Chief Minister of Assam on 18 May 2001. The hour-long ceremony took place at Raj Bhavan at 14:00. Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and Bhubaneswar Kalita, who challenged Gogoi's claim to become Chief Minister in the wake of the election results, both did not attend the ceremony. 2021 Assam Legislative Assembly Election
The 2021 Assam Legislative Assembly election was the 15th quinquennial legislative assembly election held in the Indian state of Assam from March 27 to April 6 in three phases, to elect 126 MLAs to the 15th Assam Legislative Assembly. The votes were counted and the result declared on Sunday, 2 May. The term of the previous Fourteenth Legislative Assembly of Assam ended on 31 May 2021. The election saw the incumbent BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) retaining power with 75 seats, which marks the first time a non- INC alliance winning consecutive terms in the state. Tarun Gogoi
Tarun Gogoi (11 October 1936 – 23 November 2020) was an Indian politician who served as the Chief Minister of Assam from 2001 to 2016. He was a member of the Indian National Congress and led the party to a record three consecutive electoral victories and was the longest serving chief minister of the state. During his tenure as the chief minister, he is credited with ending militant insurgency and mitigating violence in addition to improving the state's fiscal condition. He also served six terms as a Member of parliament, Lok Sabha and served as a Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Food and Ministry of Food Processing Industries. He was posthumously awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honour, in 2021.
