The Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Sorrows (Portuguese language, Portuguese: ''Basílica Menor de Nossa Senhora das Dores'') is the oldest standing Catholic temple in the Brazilian city of Porto Alegre, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Its construction lasted a considerable time and the design of the facade, which was modified even before it was inaugurated, today features an Eclecticism in architecture, eclectic style. However, the interior is richly decorated with gilded Woodworking, woodwork in a Baroque architecture, late Baroque style with neoclassical elements and has an important group of life-size Baroque statues of Christ representing the cycle of the Passion of Jesus, Passion. The seat of ancient religious traditions and of great historical and artistic significance, it has been classified as a national heritage site by National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage, IPHAN. Calvary ( la, Calvariae or ) or Golgotha ( grc-gre, Γολγοθᾶ, ''Golgothâ'') was a site immediately outside Jerusalem's walls where Jesus was said to have been crucified according to the canonical Gospels. Since at least the early medieval period, it has been a destination for pilgrimage. Ragamuffin War
The Ragamuffin War (Portuguese: ''Guerra dos Farrapos'' or ''Revolução Farroupilha'') was a Republican uprising that began in southern Brazil, in the province (current state) of Rio Grande do Sul in 1835. The rebels were led by generals Bento Gonçalves da Silva and Antônio de Sousa Neto with the support of the Italian fighter Giuseppe Garibaldi. The war ended with an agreement between the two sides known as Green Poncho Treaty (Portuguese: ) in 1845.
