Ministry Of The Gas Industry
The Ministry of the Gas Industry (Mingazprom; ) was a government ministry in the Soviet Union responsible for the Soviet oil industry and related sectors. It was created in 1957 as the Main Administration for the Gas Industry; renamed State Production Committee for the Gas Industry in 1963. It received its ministerial title in 1965. In 1989 Gazprom was established as a successor to the ministry. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, assets outside of Russia were transferred to national companies such as Ukrgazprom and Turkmengazprom. Sabit Atayevich Orujov (, ; 31 May 1912 – 20 April 1981) was an Azerbaijani and Soviet politician, Deputy Prime-minister of Azerbaijan SSR (1957-1959), Deputy Minister of Oil Extracting Industry of USSR (1965-1972), Minister of the Gas Industry of USSR (1972-1981) and member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (1981). Viktor Stepanovich Chernomyrdin (, ; 9 April 19383 November 2010) was a Soviet and Russian politician and businessman. He was the Minister of Gas Industry of the Soviet Union (13 February 1985 – 17 July 1989), after which he became first chairman of Gazprom energy company and the second-longest-serving Prime Minister of Russia (1992–1998) based on consecutive years.
