Ministry Of Sports (Taiwan)
The Ministry of Sports (MOS; ) is a proposed cabinet-level ministry of Taiwan and will be responsible for the development of the sport industry and the promotion of competitive and recreational sports. Background and planning In May 2024, president Lai Ching-te announced plans to establish a sports development ministry to promote the sports industry and elevate the athletic competitiveness of Taiwan. Following the 2024 Summer Olympics, an advisory panel of top Taiwanese athletes was formed as part of the preparatory team tasked with upgrading the existing Sports Administration to a ministry. The panel included badminton player Lee Yang, table tennis player Chuang Chih-yuan, and judoka Lien Chen-ling. Sports Administration
The Sports Administration (SA; ) is a sub-agency of the Taiwanese Ministry of Education. History The Sport Administration was initially established in 1932 as the Sports Council (體育委員會). On 12 January 1998, the Sports Affairs Council (行政院體育委員會) of the Executive Yuan was promulgated. Starting 1 January 2013, the council became the Sport Administration and placed under the Ministry of Education. The Sports Administration is set to be replaced by the Ministry of Sports in September 2025. The Executive Yuan () is the executive (government), executive branch of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Under the Additional Articles of the Constitution of the Republic of China, amended constitution, the head of the Executive Yuan is the Premier of the Republic of China, Premier who is positioned as the head of government and has the power to appoint members to serve in the cabinet, while the president of the Republic of China, ROC President is the head of state under the semi-presidential system, who can appoint the Premier and nominate the members of the cabinet. Lai Ching-te
Lai Ching-te (; pinyin: ''Lài Qīngdé''; born 6 October 1959), also known as William Lai, is a Taiwanese politician and former physician who is currently serving as the eighth president of the Republic of China (Taiwan) since May 2024. He is the third member of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to assume the office of president and the first whose predecessor was also a DPP member. He is also the third incumbent vice president to succeed to the presidency and the first to assume the office through election instead of immediate succession. He has also served as the chair of the DPP since 2023. Lee Yang
Lee Yang (; born 12 August 1995) is a Taiwanese retired professional badminton player. He is the Olympic men's doubles champion in 2020 and 2024, becoming the first unseeded men's doubles pair in Olympics history to win consecutive gold medals. Lee also won the bronze medals at the 2018 and 2022 Asian Games, as well at the 2023 Asian Championships. With his former partner Wang Chi-lin, they reached a career high as World number 2 in September 2022. Chuang Chih-yuan
Chuang Chih-yuan (; born 2 April 1981) is a Taiwanese table tennis player. He won the ITTF Pro Tour Grand Finals in 2002 and doubles title at the 2013 World Table Tennis Championships. He participated in the Summer Olympics six times, making the most appearances at the Olympic Games among Taiwanese athletes. Career in table tennis Chuang's parents were both table tennis players in Taiwan. His father was a national doubles champion, and his mother Lee Kuei-mei was a member of the national team. The Legislative Yuan () is the unicameral legislature of the Republic of China (Taiwan) located in Taipei. The Legislative Yuan is composed of 113 members, who are directly elected for four-year terms by people of the Taiwan Area through a parallel voting system.
