The Ministry of Public Works (MOP; pt, Ministério das Obras Públicas, tet, Ministériu Obras Públikas) is the government department of East Timor accountable for public works and related matters. Functions The Ministry is responsible for the design, implementation, coordination and evaluation of policy for the following areas: * public works; * housing; * supply, distribution and management of water, sanitation and electricity; and * execution of urban planning and housing. The Constitution of East Timor entered into force on 20 May 2002, and was the country's first constitution after it gained independence from Portugal in 1975 and from Indonesia, which invaded East Timor on 7 December 1975 and left in 1999 following a UN-sponsored referendum.
