The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan (MIA RK, , , ҚР ІІМ/QR IIM; , МВД РК/MBD RK) is the Government of Kazakhstan, Kazakh government Ministry (government department), ministry which oversees the Police of Kazakhstan, police and the National Guard of Kazakhstan, National Guard (formerly the Internal Troops of Kazakhstan, Internal Troops) of Kazakhstan. The Ministry is headed by the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, appointed by the decree of the President of Kazakhstan. The Minister of Internal Affairs has 5 deputies, including the First Deputy Minister. The Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic, also known as Soviet Kazakhstan, the Kazakh SSR, KSSR, or simply Kazakhstan, was one of the transcontinental constituent republics of the Soviet Union (USSR) from 1936 to 1991. Located in northern Central Asia, it was created on 5 December 1936 from the Kazakh ASSR, an autonomous republic of the Russian SFSR. Law enforcement in Kazakhstan is handled by the Kazakhstan police (, ) and law courts, largely unchanged from the era of Soviet control, and is shared between the country's National Security Committee, Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Office of the Procurator General.
