The Ministry of Education (MINeDUC, , ) of Rwanda, previously the ''Ministère de l'Éducation, de la Science, de la Technologie et de la Recherche scientifique'', is headquartered in Kigali. As of December 2017, the minister is Dr. Eugène Mutimura. He was preceded by Dr. Papias Malimba Musafiri, who served in that position since June 2015 - December 2017. Number of schools, students, and staff In 2017, the estimated population of Rwanda was 11.8 million people. MINeDUC oversees over 13,000 education centers, 93,000 staff, and over 3.6 million students. The primary and secondary schools are organized into 30 administrative districts. Kigali () is the Capital (political), capital and largest city of Rwanda. It is near the nation's geographic centre in a region of rolling hills, with a series of valleys and ridges joined by steep slopes. As a primate city, Kigali is a relatively new city. It has been Rwanda's economic, cultural, and transport hub since it was founded as an administrative outpost in 1907, and became the capital of the country at independence in 1962, shifting focus away from Butare, Huye. Eugène Mutimura
Eugene Mutimura is a Rwandan scientist and researcher. He is currently the Executive Secretary of the Rwanda's National Council for Science and Technology (NCST). Prior to this appointment, Mutimura served as the minister of education of the Republic of Rwanda. Prior to his appointment as minister of education, Mutimura coordinated the Eastern and Southern African Centers of Excellence project funded by the World Bank in eight countries, to support research and education in sixteen universities. He was a recipient of the Fulbright Scholarship. Papias Malimba Musafiri
Papias Malimba Musafiri is a Rwandan academic, researcher and politician, who has served as the Minister of Education in the Rwandan cabinet, since 25 June 2015, replacing Prof. Silas Lwakabamba. Background and education He holds a Bachelor of Commerce, obtained from the University of Dar es Salaam. He also holds a Master of Business Administration with majors in Finance and Information Technology, obtained from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. His Doctor of Philosophy in management was awarded by Vellore Institute of Technology, also in India. ''The New Times'' is a national English-language newspaper in Rwanda. It was established in 1995 shortly after the genocide against the Tutsi. A Kinyarwanda-language weekly called ''Izuba Rirashe'' was previously published.
