Cándido Bareiro
Cándido Pastor Bareiro Caballero (October 27, 1833, in Luque Paraguay – September 4, 1880, in Asuncion, Paraguay) was President of Paraguay from 27 November 1878 to 4 September 1880 and the leading politician of the post-war decade. Bareiro served as ambassador and commercial agent for the Paraguayan government of Francisco Solano López government in Europe. During the last months of Paraguayan War he returned to Paraguay in 1869 and entered politics, where he started a political movement that would result in creation of the Colorado Party. A strong ally of General Bernardino Caballero, he was elected President in 1878 with Caballero's help and died from a stroke after two years in office. José Segundo Decoud Domecq (14 May 1848 – 3 March 1909) was a Paraguayan politician, journalist, diplomat and military officer. He is often considered one of the foremost intellectuals of his generation, and was also one of the first liberals of the country. Decoud was one of the founders of the long-standing Colorado Party (Paraguay), Colorado Party, having been its first vice-president and written its founding instrument. During the Paraguayan War, Decoud was a member of the Paraguayan Legion fighting against the Paraguayan government. José Higinio Uriarte y García del Barrio (11 January 1843 in Asunción – 21 April 1909) was a Paraguayan politician and President from April 12, 1877 to November 25, 1878.
