Minister For Community Services (Western Australia)
Minister for Community Services is a position in the government of Western Australia, currently held by Sabine Winton of the Labor Party. The position was first created after the 1943 state election, for the government of John Willcock. It was abolished in 1947 and not recreated until 1971, but has existed in most governments since then. The minister is one of the ministers responsible for the state government's Department of Local Government and Communities. Between 1986 and 2001 there was a separate minister titled either Minister for the Family or Minister for Family and Children's Services, whose responsibilities are now held by the Minister for Community Services. Keith Wilson (Western Australian Politician)
Keith James Wilson (born 5 September 1936) is an Australian politician. He was born in Kalgoorlie to miner James Wilson and Barbara Jean McKenzie. He attended local public schools and became a teacher, graduating in 1955. After a period teaching at Mount Barker, he trained for the Anglican clergy from 1959 to 1961. From 1961 to 1965 he was the assistant priest for the Scarborough parish, and from 1965 to 1967 he taught in the United Kingdom. On 24 August 1968, he married Angela Joy Hankin, with whom he had two sons. From 1969 he was an Anglican clergyman at Balga. In 1977 he was elected to the Western Australian Legislative Assembly as the Labor member for Dianella; he represented this seat until 1983, Nollamara until 1989, and then Dianella again until 1993. Cheryl Edwardes
Cheryl Lynn Edwardes (; born 1 March 1950) is a former Australian politician. She was born at Mount Hawthorn in Perth, Western Australia and was a barrister and solicitor before entering politics. In 1989 she was elected to the Western Australian Legislative Assembly as the Liberal member for Kingsley. She was immediately promoted to the front bench as Shadow Minister for Education, and remained a senior frontbencher for the rest of her career, including serving as Attorney-General from 1993 to 1995, Family and Services Minister from 1995 to 1997, and Environment Minister from 1997 to 2001. Carmen Lawrence
Carmen Mary Lawrence (born 2 March 1948) is an Australian academic and former politician who was the premier of Western Australia from 1990 to 1993, the first woman to become the premier of an Australian state. To date she is the only female premier of Western Australia. A member of the Labor Party, she later entered federal politics as a member of the House of Representatives from 1994 to 2007, and served as a minister in the Keating government. Lawrence was born in Northam, Western Australia. She studied psychology at the University of Western Australia, obtaining a doctorate in 1983, and before entering politics worked as a lecturer and researcher. Lawrence was elected to state parliament in 1986, and became a government minister in 1988. Simone Frances McGurk (born 5 December 1963) is an Australian politician. She is the member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly for the seat of Fremantle, and Minister for Creative Industries, Heritage, Industrial Relations, Aged Care and Seniors, Women. Prior to entering Parliament, McGurk was Secretary of UnionsWA, Western Australia's peak trade union body, having previously served as an official of the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union and United Voice. Paul Miles (politician)
Paul Terrance Miles (born 13 February 1963) is an Australian politician. He was a Liberal member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 2008 to 2017, representing Wanneroo. He won the seat after defeating sitting Labor MLA Dianne Guise. Miles was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Commerce in 2013 to 2016, in the Barnett Ministry.
