''Midnight to Midnight'' is the fifth studio album by the English rock band the Psychedelic Furs, released on 2 February 1987 by Columbia Records. ''Midnight to Midnight'' was produced by Chris Kimsey, who was known for his work with the Rolling Stones and had recently produced Marillion's best-selling studio album ''Misplaced Childhood'' (1985). A more overtly commercial effort than the Psychedelic Furs had previously recorded, ''Midnight to Midnight'' was their highest-charting album in the UK, peaking at number 12, yet lead vocalist Richard Butler later characterized it as "hollow, vapid and weak", and the album has been described as "over-produced and underwhelming". The album also featured the single "Heartbreak Beat", which proved to be the Furs' biggest Top 40 entry in the US at that time. Mars Williams
Marc Charles "Mars" Williams (May 29, 1955 – November 20, 2023) was an American jazz and rock saxophonist. He was a member of the American new wave band The Waitresses from 1980 to 1983, and a member of the British post-punk band The Psychedelic Furs from 1983 to 1989 and again from 2005 until his death in 2023. Williams also was a founding member of the acid jazz group Liquid Soul, and a member of the free jazz-oriented NRG Ensemble. Career Exposed to swing music and Dixieland jazz by his trumpeter father, Williams played classical clarinet for ten years before migrating to saxophone in his last year of high school, citing the influence of Eric Dolphy, John Coltrane and Charlie Parker. His brother Richard Butler and himself founded the band. He is also the youngest of three brothers. Richard, the eldest, is the lead vocalist of the Psychedelic Furs. John Geza Ashton (born 30 November 1957) is an English musician, songwriter, composer, and record producer, with a career spanning more than 40 years. He is best known as the guitarist of the Psychedelic Furs. Early life John Geza Ashton was born on 30 November 1957 in Whipps Cross Hospital, Forest Gate, London, and lived in North Kilworth in south Leicestershire.
