Michael Edward Brett Saunders (born November 19, 1986) is a Canadian former professional baseball outfielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Seattle Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays, and Philadelphia Phillies. He was nicknamed "the Condor" by Dave Sims, who attributed the origin of it to Lee Tinsley. And also, "Captain Canada". Amateur career Saunders started his baseball playing Little League Baseball in the Gordon Head Baseball Association, and was a member of Team Canada at the 1999 Little League World Series. While attending Lambrick Park Secondary School in Victoria, British Columbia, Saunders played high school baseball for the Victoria Mariners of the British Columbia Premier Baseball League. He then played for the Tallahassee Community College Eagles prior to being drafted. Michael Alan Saunders is a New Zealand American Numerical Analysis, numerical analyst and computer scientist. He is a research professor of Management Science and Engineering at Stanford University. Saunders is known for his contributions to numerical linear algebra and numerical optimization and has developed many widely used software packages, such as MINOS (optimization software), MINOS, NPSOL, and SNOPT. Saunders developed the MINRES method for the iterative solution of symmetric System of linear equations, linear equation systems in 1975 together with Christopher Conway Paige. Michael Lawrence Saunders, CB, QC (13 April 1944 – 17 December 1996) was a British lawyer and public servant. Education and early career Saunders attended Clifton College, before completing an undergraduate law degree at the University of Birmingham and then the postgraduate Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Cambridge. Mike Saunders (born October 3, 1969) is an American former professional Canadian football running back who played eight seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for five different teams. Mike Saunders is a retired Jamaican soccer player who played professionally in the USL A-League and National Professional Soccer League. Saunders attended the University of Connecticut where he played on the Huskies soccer team from 1990 to 1992. In 1993, he left the team to sign with the Connecticut Wolves of the USISL. He played for the Wolves again in 1994. In 1995, Saunders joined the New York Fever. In 1996, the Fever moved up to the A-League, but they sent Saunders on lone to the Wolves of the 1996 USISL Select League for most of the season. Despite playing on loan, Saunders scored fifteen goals for Connecticut. That fall, Saunders moved indoors with the Wichita Wings of the National Professional Soccer League. He was back with the Connecticut Wolves in 1997 as it played in the 1997 USISL A-League. The Wolves sent Saunders on loan to the Carolina Dynamo for three games.
