Michael Sean Mahoney
Michael Sean Mahoney (June 30, 1939 – July 23, 2008) was a historian of science and technology. Mahoney was born in New York City, and did his undergraduate studies at Harvard University, graduating in 1960. He earned a Ph.D. in history and history of science from Princeton University in 1967, and immediately took a position as an assistant professor there. He remained at Princeton for over 40 years, until his death in 2008. A conference on the history of science and technology was held in his honor at Princeton in May 2009. Michael John Mahoney (born December 5, 1972) is a Major League Baseball catcher, formerly with the St. Louis Cardinals. He made his major league debut on September 8, 2000 with the Chicago Cubs, and after two seasons in Chicago, he was released and eventually signed with St. Louis. Mike Mahoney is an English retired football goalkeeper who played professionally in England and the United States. In 1967, Mahoney began his professional career with Bristol City. He saw limited opportunities to play before moving to Torquay United in August 1970. He played for Torquay until March 1975, when he was bought by Newcastle United. Mahoney was a popular figure on Tyneside which earned him the terrace chant of “Mick Mahoney, Super Goalie” In November 1978, the Chicago Sting of the North American Soccer League purchased Mahoney's contract from Newcastle United. The Sting sent him to the California Surf halfway through the 1979 season. He played two and a half outdoor and two indoor seasons with the Surf. Wreck Donovan
Michael Mahoney, better known as Wreck Donovan or simply The Wreck, (fl. 1869–1949) was a nineteenth-century American sneak thief, river pirate and underworld figure in New York City. He was a well-known criminal for hire on the New York waterfront during the post-American Civil War era and later became a member of Patsy Conroy Gang. Mahoney also participated in a number of violent robberies during the early-1870s, including his time leading a group of Fourth Ward railroad thieves, although he usually escaped punishment due to his political connections to Tammany Hall. These activities, however, would lead to his eventual imprisonment by New York District Attorneys Benjamin K. Phelps and Horace Russell in 1873.
