Michael Dempsey
Michael Stephen Dempsey (born 29 November 1958) is an English musician and composer, who has played bass as a member of several post-punk and new wave bands, including the Cure and the Associates. History Early years Dempsey was born on 29 November 1958 in Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia (now known as Harare, Zimbabwe); the son of Nancy and William. He moved to Salfords in Surrey, England in 1961, and attended Salfords County School from 1963 to 1970. He then went to Notre Dame Middle School between 1970 and 1972, where he met Robert Smith, Marc Ceccagno and Lol Tolhurst. Here they first played music together as the Obelisk in April 1972, giving an end-of-year performance for their classmates. Although he is ordinarily known as a bass guitar player, Dempsey played guitar for The Obelisk's only known live performance, whereas one Alan Hill played bass. Michael Dempsey (September 10, 1918 – January 8, 1974) was an American Bishop of the Catholic Church. He served as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago from 1968 to 1974. Biography Born in Chicago, Illinois, Michael Ryan Patrick Dempsey was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Chicago on May 1, 1943, by Archbishop Samuel Stritch. On June 13, 1968 Pope Paul VI appointed him as the Titular Bishop of ''Truentum'' and Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago. He was consecrated by Cardinal John Cody on June 13, 1968. The principal co-consecrators were Bishops Ernest John Primeau of Manchester and Cletus F. Michael Dempsey is an Irish former Gaelic footballer and manager. He played at senior level for the Laois county team. Early life Born to Jack Dempsey (originally from Laois) and Annie Spain (originally from County Offaly), Dempsey is one of seven children: the others are Martin, P. J., Seán, Betty (Moore), Margaret (Farrelly) and Anne Dempsey all of whom have links with the St Joseph's club. Playing career Dempsey captained his club St Joseph's to the Laois Senior Football Championship title in 1983. He spent many years playing for the laois county team and was part of the team that won the National Football League title in 1986. Mike Dempsey is a British practising graphic designer. He has been trained in calligraphy and typography since 1964. Career From the late 1960s Dempsey worked as an art director for two leading British publishing houses, William Heinemann and William Collins & Sons. In 1979 he founded the London-based design consultancy Carroll & Dempsey which later became CDT Design Limited. He created stamps for the Royal Mail, feature film title sequences for Ridley Scott, Louis Malle, Dennis Potter, David Hare and Bruce Beresford, the brand identity for English National Opera, and South Bank Centre to the resigning of the Royal National Theatre and the Royal Opera House. Michael P. Dempsey is a former acting Director of National Intelligence, serving from January 20, 2017 to March 15, 2017. Biography Previously, Dempsey served as the deputy director of national intelligence and President Obama's primary intelligence briefer from 2014 to 2017. Michael James Dempsey, OP (February 12, 1912 – March 19, 1996) was an American-born bishop of the Catholic Church. He served as the bishop of the Diocese of Sokoto in Nigeria from 1967-1984. Early life and education James Edward Dempsey was born in Providence, Rhode Island, to Joseph M. Demspey and Julia Mary McSherry. He was educated at St. Mary's Grade School, LaSalle Academy and Providence College all in Providence. Dempsey entered the Dominican novitiate at St. Rose Priory in Springfield, Kentucky, and took the religious name Michael. He made his first profession of vows on August 16, 1936.
