The Miami Hurricanes football team represents the University of Miami in college football. The Hurricanes compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA's NCAA Division I, Division I NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Bowl Subdivision, the highest level of collegiate football in the nation. The team is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), one of the Power Four conferences in college football. The program began in 1926 and joined the ACC in 2004, competing in the conference's Coastal Division from 2005 until the ACC eliminated divisions in 2023. 1926 Miami Hurricanes Football Team
The 1926 Miami Hurricanes football team represented the University of Miami during the 1926 college football season. The team was only a freshman team, but was the first to play football for the university. Before their first season began, plans for a 50,000-seat stadium were proposed by Bowman Foster Ashe, the university's first president. Work began on a temporary, 8,000-seat structure when on September 17, 1926, a 1926 Miami hurricane, hurricane destroyed much of South Florida, killing more than 130 people, and removing the plans for a football stadium. This postponed the season, but also gave the team its nickname, the Miami Hurricanes. The 1992 Miami Hurricanes football team represented the University of Miami during the 1992 NCAA Division I-A football season. It was the Hurricanes' 67th season of football and second as a member of the Big East Conference. The Miami–Nebraska football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the Miami Hurricanes of the University of Miami and Nebraska Cornhuskers of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
