Mglinsky Uyezd
Mglinsky Uyezd () or Mhlyn Povit () was one of the subdivisions of the Chernigov Governorate of the Russian Empire. It was situated in the northeastern part of the governorate. Its administrative centre was Mglin. The governorate was incorporated into the Ukrainian SSR, and part of it including the Mglinsky Uyezd was transferred to the Gomel Oblast of the Russian SFSR in 1919. Demographics At the time of the Russian Empire Census of 1897, Mglinsky Uyezd had a population of 139,343. Gomel Governorate
Gomel Governorate was an administrative-territorial unit ('' guberniya'') of the Russian SFSR from 1919 to 1926 with its capital in Gomel.http://www.jewishgen.org/belarus/borders_timeline.htm It was formed from nine uyezds of the abolished Mogilev Governorate, one uyezd of Minsk Governorate and four uyezds of Chernigov Governorate. Mglin
Mglin (, ) is a town and the administrative center of Mglinsky District in Bryansk Oblast, Russia, located on the Sudynka River west of Bryansk, the administrative center of the oblast. Population: History Mglin was first mentioned in 1389, though the settlement it was built on had existed since the 12th century. During the Khmelnytsky Uprising, Mglin came under the control of Cossack forces and became a sotnia (company town) center within the Nizhyn Regiment, and from 1663, within the Starodub Regiment of the Cossack Hetmanate. In 1760, Empress Elizabeth granted Mglin as a private estate to Kyrylo Rozumovsky, the last Hetman of Cossack Ukraine. Following the abolition of the Hetmanate’s autonomy in 1781, Mglin became the administrative center of a uyezd (district) within the Novgorod-Seversky Viceroyalty, and in 1802 it was incorporated into the Chernigov Governorate.
